Ingredients Needed To Make Easy Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip
- canned chicken
- cream cheese
- buffalo hot sauce
- ranch dressing
- cheddar cheese
How To Make Buffalo Chicken Dip Using Canned Chicken
- Cut cream cheese into small chunks. (This will make melting easier.)
- Add to crockpot: chicken, cream cheese, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, and cheddar cheese and mix to combine.
- Cover and turn the heat on low for 3-4 hours or high heat for 1-2 hours, stirring frequently (approximately every 30 minutes) so cream cheese will melt and mix into the mixture.
- Serve with tortilla chips or celery.
How long does Buffalo Chicken Dip last in the fridge?
As long as you store it properly in the fridge, this simple buffalo chicken recipe should last anywhere from 3-5 days.
What can you use to dip into this easy chicken dip recipe?
So many things! Some of the food items that you can “dip” into this dip could be:
- Tortilla chips
- Carrot sticks
- Celery sticks
- Pretzels
- Baguettes
- Crackers
You could even literally just dip in a spoon or fork and take a bite – it’s just that good!
Can you freeze buffalo chicken dip after cooking?
Absolutely. This is just one of the many reasons why this simple dip recipe rocks. Make certain that you store it in a freezer-proof container and add it to your freezer at that point in time.
As long as it’s sealed tight, it should stay good in the freezer for 1-3 months. To unthaw, just remove from the freezer and put it in the fridge. This will help it to thaw overnight.
Can you make this slow cooker chicken buffalo dip recipe using real chicken?
You can but just make certain that you follow all the steps necessary to cook the chicken to the proper temperature. You don’t want to have to worry about raw chicken when you’re making a recipe as simple as this.
While I’ve never actually made this recipe using anything but canned chicken, I would recommend that you cook your raw chicken first separately and then shred it and add it to the rest of the ingredients in the crockpot.
Ways To Vary This Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Dip
One of the other reasons that this dip recipe is so popular is because it’s easy to change up the flavor as well.
While the buffalo taste and flavoring are wonderful, there is still quite a bit of wiggle room to make this dip recipe taste different, too.
Add salsa for an extra kick
Even though the recipe doesn’t call for it, this is one of my favorite additions to make. Just dump in a jar of salsa to your crockpot dip to give it an awesome texture and taste. (I prefer chunky salsa but that’s just because I really like the extra tomato chunks.)
Don’t forget the toppings
So many people tend to forget the power of toppings! I’m a huge fan of adding toppings to just about anything and you’ll be amazed that once you start to do this as well, all the dishes that you’ve been eating forever are going to taste just like new and unique dishes.
Some simple topping ideas are diced onions, fresh cilantro, shredded cheese, chopped chives, a dash of ghost pepper, and anything else that you and your tastebuds are craving.
Change up the flavor of the cheese to change up the taste
Cheese is one of the best ingredients for any dish, ever. So it just makes sense that if you’re wanting to change up your taste, all you really have to do is change up your cheese as well.
Even though this recipe calls for shredded cheese, you can try Colby jack, pepper jack, or even a combination of all three. Because in my opinion, you just can’t go wrong with adding in cheese. It’s a fast way to easily change the taste!
See how many ways you can change this recipe? The really cool part is that even after you’ve cooked it up in your crockpot, you can still add in other ingredients that can easily alter the flavor a bit as well. I’ve even used this as a leftover topping on nachos, burritos, tacos, and more!
What I love best about this Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Dip is that it’s crazy easy and crazy good. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made this and served it to family and friends and it’s been one of their favorite dishes, by far.
There never is really a bad time to make this hot chicken dip, either. This is because it’s versatile enough to go perfectly with a rowdy football game, a holiday family gathering, or a night of binge-watching Netflix and eating this dip as though it’s your last meal.

This turned out great. My preference is to cook my own chicken or shred a store bought rotisserie chicken. So easy to make! I used the leftovers to make buffalo chicken pinwheels!

I love this recipe and I love making it but I was wondering are you supposed to drain the chicken or not?
Alicia says
yes, drain the chicken if using canned chicken. It mentions draining it in the recipe card, but I just update the notes in the blog post for clarification.
