This big spider web cookie is a sweet chocolate chip oatmeal cookie with caramel and chocolate sauces drizzled on top and a cute buttercream spider. It’s a fun Halloween treat.
Spider Web Cookie
Make this in a cast iron skillet for the perfect cookie. You can serve it right in the skillet and slide pie-like servings for your guests.
Ingredients
- oatmeal
- all-purpose flour
- brown sugar
- baking soda
- salt
- canola oil
- eggs
- vanilla extract
- chocolate chips
- caramel sauce and chocolate sauce
Vanilla Frosting
- sweet cream butter, softened
- confectioner’s sugar
- heavy whipping cream
- two disposable piping bags
- black gel food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a 8in round cast iron with pam baking spray
- Using a standing mixer, beat the oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, canola oil, eggs and vanilla and beat until combined
- Fold in the chocolate chips
- Fold in the chocolate chips
- Bake in the oven for about 20-30 minutes or until a light golden brown Allow to cool completely on the counter
- Drizzle the caramel and chocolate sauce on top
Making the Frosting
- Using a standing mixer, beat the butter, powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream and vanilla until combined and stiff peaks. About 5 minutes mixing
- Divide the frosting into two bowls
- Mix a few drops of the black food coloring into one bowl and mix until combined
- Scoop into the piping bag and scoop the white frosting into the second piping bag. Cut the tips off
- Using the black frosting, pipe out the detail of a spider web by creating an X
- Pipe a line through the middle of the X to create a star
- Pipe half circles in between each line to create the web
- Using the white frosting, outline the web to create a 3D effect
- Using the black frosting, pipe out some spiders to go on the web.
Tips
- Alternative to a cast iron skillet – while the cast iron skillet adds to the Halloween feel of this cookie, you can also make this in a round cake pan. Just alter the time (usually less) and watch it in the oven.
- Thick frosting – If the frosting is to thick and you’re having an issue piping it, add more cream to thin it out.
- Be creative – you can change out the colors and styles for the top of this cookie
