Tools Needed for This Recipe
- Cast iron skillet – this is the best to use because it retains the heat and keeps the dip hot and gooey.
- Sanding sugars – you can find these in the baking isles of most craft stores, places like Walmart, and on Amazon.
Sanding sugars (Amazon links):
🛒 Ingredients
- chocolate chips – any type will do. We used milk chocolate.
- large marshmallows – Grab some big marshmallows for this s’more dip recipe. This will help create a delicious fluffy topping for your melted chocolate to create the most delicious dessert dip. Opt for the big marshmallows because the mini ones will start to burn before the chocolate melts.
- graham crackers – You can’t have s’mores without graham crackers. So, pick up a pack of graham crackers so you can dip into your chocolatey marshmallow treat!
- sanding sugars – you’ll need the above mentioned sanding sugars in order to get the colors
- candy eyes – you can find these at the craft store, some grocery stores, or on Amazon
🥄 HOW TO MAKE Halloween S’MORES DIP
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Step One: Line Pan with Chocolate Chips
- Pour the chocolate chips on the bottom of an 8 or 9 inch cast iron skillet. (If using a regular pan, be sure to grease it with cooking spray.) Make sure they are spread out and cover the bottom of the pan.
Step Two: Color the Marshmallows
- Place a small dish of water on the counter and put each sanding sugar in separate small dishes.
- Place a toothpick in the middle of a marshmallow and hold the marshmallow by the toothpick. Dip half of the marshmallow into the water, then into the purple sanding sugar.
- Repeat with each color.
- Place marshmallows color side up into the skillet in a bullseye pattern.
- Repeat until the skillet is full of marshmallows.
Step Three: Bake and Serve
- Once the skillet is full of marshmallows, place in the oven at 350 degrees for 5 to 10 minutes, or until chocolate is melted. You can use a toothpick to test.
- Remove from the oven and let your pan sit for about 5 minutes. The chocolate will continue to melt from the heat of the pan.
- Once removed from the oven, add the candy eyes on top. Press them in a bit into different areas of the dip.
- Serve immediately from the pan with graham crackers for dipping.
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR MAKING S’MORES DIP
- If you do not have a cast iron pan you can cook it in a regular baking dish. I prefer the cast iron pan because it helps retain the heat and keep the dip from cooling off to fast.
- Watch closely – watch the marshmallows closely after 5 minutes because they can easily (and quickly) burn.
WHY USE A CAST IRON SKILLET TO MAKE S’MORES DIP?
The best thing about using a cast iron skillet for this recipe is that it helps keep your Halloween s’mores dip warm which allows you to enjoy it even longer without the chocolate solidifying.
CAN I SUBSTITUTE OTHER CANDY BARS IN THE S’MORES RECIPE?
Yes, this recipe is so versatile. Any chocolate candy could work well: Snickers, Milky Way, or chocolate bars. This would be super fun with leftover Halloween candy!
WHAT SHOULD I DIP INTO S’MORES DIP?‘
There are so many options you can choose from to dip into this yummy s’mores dip! Try a few of these:
- Graham crackers
- Animal crackers
- Strawberries
- Pretzels
- Bananas
- Apples
Suggestions and Alternatives
- We have our regular indoor s’mores version that’s even easier to make.
- Use chocolate bar instead of chocolate chips. Just unwrap and break apart the chocolate rectangles and place on the bottom of the pan.
- Peanut butter – make a peanut butter version using mini Reese’s peanut butter cups.
- Easter – use Peeps instead of marshmallows. So cute!
CAN YOU REHEAT S’MORES DIP?
Yes, you can reheat this s’mores dip by just placing the skillet right back into the oven at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes or until you notice the chocolate is melting and your marshmallows are warm and soft.
CAN YOU MAKE S’MORES DIP AHEAD?
This is a great dessert to make ahead, especially if it’s for a Halloween party. Break up the chocolate, add it to the pan, then top with marshmallows. Then cover it and place it in the fridge. As the oven preheats, remove the dip from the refrigerator and place on the counter to come to room temperature. Bake as normal.
HOW TO STORE LEFTOVER S’MORES DIP
If you have any leftover s’more dip you can store it in the fridge. Just store it in an airtight container for up to a week.
