High Protein Buffalo Chicken Dip

My high protein buffalo chicken dip is the easiest way to sneak more protein into a dish your whole family already loves. I added cottage cheese and Greek yogurt to my fan-favorite crockpot version and it comes out just as rich, creamy, and cheesy as ever. No one will ever guess it’s been upgraded.

Slow Cooker High Protein Buffalo Chicken Dip
I have been on a mission lately to add more protein to the recipes my family already enjoys, and buffalo chicken dip felt like an easy place to start. My Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Dip and Oven Baked Buffalo Chicken Dip are already two of the most popular dip recipes, so I started making a few smart swaps to create a higher protein version without losing that rich, cheesy texture or bold buffalo flavor everybody expects.
Most of the high‑protein versions I tested were either too thick or a little grainy. My recipe fixes that by getting the amounts of cream cheese, cottage cheese, and yogurt dialed in perfectly. It’s easy to make, hearty, and scoopable and it tastes exactly like the classic people keep coming back for.

Why My Protein Buffalo Dip Recipe is the Best
- Tested and perfected ingredients – I started with my most popular Buffalo Chicken Dip and made targeted swaps, so the flavor was already right before I changed a single ingredient.
- Hearty but creamy texture – Blending the cottage cheese smooth and balancing the other ingredients perfectly gives the dip incredible texture and buffalo flavor.
- Real protein boost – Between the rotisserie chicken, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and cheddar, this dip has an impressive protein count.
Ingredients Needed to Make Buffalo Chicken Dip

Below is a list of the ingredients you’ll need to make this recipe. Scroll down to the full recipe card for the specific amounts.
- Rotisserie chicken, chopped – Rotisserie chicken is already seasoned and tender, which saves time and adds depth of flavor.
- Cottage cheese – This is the secret protein upgrade. Blended smooth, it melts right into the dip and you would never know it was there.
- Greek yogurt – Full-fat Greek yogurt adds tang and richness while contributing even more protein.
- Cream cheese – Adds even more creaminess and richness to the dip.
- Sharp cheddar cheese – Adds bold cheesy flavor.
- Frank’s RedHot sauce – Frank’s has the right balance of vinegar and heat and is what gives this dip its signature kick.
- Garlic powder – A background note of savory depth that rounds out the heat from the hot sauce.
- Smoked paprika – Adds a subtle smokiness that makes this feel more complex than your average dip.
- Salt – Enhances all the other flavors without making the dip taste salty.
- Black pepper – A small amount adds just enough edge to the overall flavor.
- Blue cheese crumbles – Added at serving, not during cooking, so the crumbles stay distinct and creamy on top.
- Scallions – Added as a garnish for color, freshness, and a mild onion flavor that balances the richness of the dip.
Substitutions or Variations
- Prefer more heat? Add extra hot sauce, cayenne pepper, or diced jalapeños before cooking.
- Not a blue cheese fan? Leave it out and add extra shredded cheddar on top instead.
- Want an even smoother dip? Blend the cottage cheese before adding it to the crockpot.
How To Make My High Protein Buffalo Dip
Here are my step-by-step instructions so you can make this recipe with ease. For the full, printable recipe with amounts and temperatures, scroll down to the recipe card below.

- Add the chicken, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, cream cheese, cheddar, Frank’s hot sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to the crockpot.
- Stir until everything is combined. Cover and cook on high for 2 to 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and the dip is hot throughout.

- Transfer to a serving bowl and top with blue cheese crumbles and scallions.
- Serve warm with chips, crackers, or vegetables.

- Shred your own cheddar – Pre-shredded cheese is coated in anti-caking starch that slows melting and can make the dip feel slightly gritty. A block of sharp cheddar shredded fresh melts cleaner and tastes sharper.
- Chop the chicken, don’t shred it – Shredded chicken breaks down too much during the long cook time and can make the dip feel stringy.
- Keep it warm during serving – This dip thickens quickly once it hits room temperature. Leave it in the slow cooker on the warm setting while you serve so it stays at the right consistency from the first scoop to the last.
High Protein Buffalo Dip FAQs
Should I Blend The Cottage Cheese First?
If you want a silky smooth dip, 30 seconds in a blender or with an immersion blender makes a noticeable difference. Skipping this step leaves a slightly more rustic texture that some people love, but if you are feeding a crowd and do not want questions about ingredients, blend it.
Can I use Canned Chicken?
Absolutely. Canned chicken is an easy way to cut corners. I even keep a can in the pantry so I cam make this any time.
How Spicy is This Dip?
It has a medium buffalo heat level, but you can easily adjust the hot sauce amount to make it milder or hotter.
Storage Instructions
- Refrigerate – Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. The dip thickens as it cools, which is totally normal.
- Freeze – This dip can be frozen in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. Dairy-based dips can sometimes separate slightly after freezing, so give it a good stir after reheating and it will come back together.
- Reheat – Reheat in the slow cooker on low for 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally. You can also reheat individual portions in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until hot throughout.
