Why We Love This Recipe

  • The best part about this delicious dip is that it’s super easy. With a few simple ingredients and a few easy steps, this no-bake recipe can be whipped up in minutes.
  • A sweet dip is ideal for parties and it tastes great with all kinds of different dippers, including fresh fruit, cookies, and graham crackers.
  • I love Halloween recipes, and the festive sprinkles and candy eyes make this creamy dip the perfect dessert for spooky season!
  • Kids love the cake flavor and colorful sprinkles, so this would be so much fun for classroom Halloween festivities.

Ingredients

A variety of desserts, including cake, cookies, and ice cream.
  • 15.25 ounces white cake mix
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip
  • 1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup Halloween colored sprinkles
  • 8 ounce package of candy eyes
  • Fruit, Nilla wafers, and animal crackers for dipping

How to Make Halloween Dip

Step One: Heat Treat the Cake Mix

A bowl of flour and a bowl of milk next to each other.

How to Heat Treat Cake Mix
Heating raw cake mix makes it safe to use in a non-baked dessert.
Place the cake mix in a bowl and heat in microwave for 30 seconds.
(You want the internal temperature to be 165 degrees F.)
Allow the cake mix to cool before incorporating into the recipe.

  • Combine the cake mix, Greek yogurt, and Cool Whip In a large mixing bowl, stirring until everything is well combined. (I like to use a silicone spatula to fold everything together.)
  • Add about ¾ of the Halloween sprinkles and fold them into the mix.
  • Place the dip in your serving bowl and top with additional sprinkles and a few candy eyes.

Tips and Suggestions

  • Be sure to stir the dip well and make sure everything is thoroughly mixed. You don’t want any clumps of cake mix in your dip.
  • For an extra festive presentation, serve this in a plastic cauldron and add a few gummy worms and spiders.
  • If you want to make individual serving desserts, use a cookie scoop to portion out a serving onto a plate and then surround it with cookies and other dippers.

Variations

  • Substitute a different kind of cake mix. You could use funfetti, orange, or even chocolate cake.
  • Change up the color and type of sprinkles for different holidays, game days, and other special occasions.
  • Mix in some chocolate or white chocolate chips or some chopped nuts, M&Ms, or other Halloween candy.

How Do I Store Halloween Dip?

Store your leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should last up to 5 days.

What Do I Serve With Halloween Dip?

This festive dip tastes good with just about everything! Try strawberries, apple slices, pretzel sticks, Nilla wafers, Animal crackers, or biscotti.

What if I Don’t Have Greek Yogurt?

If you don’t have (or don’t like) Greek yogurt, you can substitute whipped cream cheese.

  1. You are not clear on instructions to heat treat cake mix. You say to put in bowl (in this case a two cup bowl) and heat for 30 seconds until 165F. I would assume you heat in a microwave vs. conventional oven. but please clarify. Thanks! Haven’t made yet but sounds like it would be yummy.

  2. Sorry for the confusion. Just heat in the microwave for 30 seconds. If you want to be sure it’s safe, you can use a thermometer to check that the temperature is 165 degrees.

Which cookies would you suggest besides those you list? I think vanilla wafers would work great as well? I am going to get nilla wafers already. Would chocolate chips be good? Making it for my sisters Halloween party Saturday. It is mostly adults & my older nieces & nephews. A two teenage girls. My nephew is the only little one left 6 yrs old.

Making this for my sisters yearly Halloween party on Saturday. Iam going to use Nilla wafers & would you suggest chocolate chips or sugsr wafers would be good as well? Mostly a adult party & some teenagers my nephew is the only young one 6 years old. My other nieces & nephews are older now.

  5. Nilla Wafers work great because they are a strong cookie. Sugar wafers taste great too!

  6. Chocolate chip cookies would be great, you could get the mini ones too.

  7. Christine Silango says:

Thank you Alicia. I appreciate your quick response. Yes mini chocolate chip cookies.

  8. Christine Silango says:

Alicia should I put eyeballs & sprinkles on top when I get to my destination? It is about 45 minute ride to the Halloween party on Saturday? Or can be put on when I make the Halloween dip. Thank you in advance.

  9. Yes, I would definitely wait to put sprinkles and the candy eyes on right before you serve.

  10. 4 stars
Recommend doubling the cool whip, and don’t put sprinkles in until just before serving because the colors will bleed in the dip. Pretzel was the clear dipping winner with this one so you get a salty sweet bite.

  11. Do you mix the cake mix like as if you were baking a cake (eggs, butter, ect) before you heat treat it?? Or just pour the actual cake mix in a bowl and then only heat that up?

  12. Just the cake mix. You heat treat the dry cake mix, then follow the instructions in the recipe.

  13. I don’t see any directions for heating this, but several questions refer to heating. Is there a step missing in the recipe?

  14. The heat treating of the cake mix is in the blog post, but I’ve added it to the recipe card as well. It’s best to heat the dry cake mix in the microwave before using in a recipe since this is a no-bake recipe.
