Can I Freeze these Stuffed Jalapenos?
You sure can! In fact, these jalapeno poppers hold up quite well in the freezer for several months. This even goes for leftover jalapeno poppers you bring home from a restaurant.
For best results, you’ll want to line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and place the poppers in single layer. Put them in the freeze for about 4-5 hours or until they are frozen fairly firm. Remove them and place them in a freezer safe bag or airtight container for up to 4-5 months.
You can also freeze unbaked poppers the same way, making meal prep for a party a breeze.
Can I Make this Philly Cheesesteak Jalapeno Popper Recipe in the Air Fryer?
You can cook these cheesesteak poppers in the air fryer just like you do traditional jalapeno poppers. I recommend air frying them for about 8 minutes on 370 degrees. You may have to cook them a little longer but check them after about 6-7 minutes.
What Meat Is Best for Spicy Philly Cheesesteak Jalapenos
One of the many great things about this recipe is that it’s very versatile when it comes to the type of meat you want to use. You can use anything from deli roast beef, steak, to ground beef or even a beef chuck roast. You just can go wrong.
They key to making these jalapeno poppers with cheesesteak is cut the steak into very thin slices, or if using ground beef, mince it up into small pieces.
To make this easier, place steaks in the freezer for about an hour. Slightly frozen meat is much easier to slice thinly. If you are using a larger cut of beef like roast, you make want to ask one of your local grocery store butchers to slice it for you.
Cheesesteak Stuffed Jalapeno Tips and Variations
Cheese: Just like cheese steak sandwiches, you can use slices of provolone cheese cut into small pieces. Or you can use American cheese, cheddar, Monterey jack, or just about any good melty cheese.
Cream cheese: If you really want to add more jalapeno flavor, you can substitute the regular cream cheese for jalapeno cream cheese spread.
Peppers: A super cute and tasty variation for this recipe is stuffed cherry peppers. They are slightly milder than jalapenos and can be found on most grocery stores around the salad or olive bars.
Toppings: You can serve these peppers just like they are, or you can add a small dollop of sour cream to each one. For added spicy flavors, drizzle a little bit of hot sauce over the tops of the baked poppers.
