Crockpot Smokies
If you’re looking for an easy appetizer, these crockpot little smokies are some of the best! And since you just need a few ingredients to make them, you’re not going to have to be stressed out about making this simple recipe at all.
Have I ever mentioned how much I love using my slow cooker? I could probably go on forever about all the recipes that I love but some of my favorites crockpot recipes are Crockpot Meatballs, Slow Cooker Southwest Chicken, and Crockpot Hot Chocolate.
The great thing about cooking with a slow cooker is that it’s almost a “set it and forget it.” That means that you can toss the ingredients in the slow cooker, walk away, and come back to an amazing compilation of amazing food. Does it get any better than that?
Ingredients Needed To Make Easy Crockpot Smokies
All you need are the simple ingredients listed below.
- Ketchup
- Brown Sugar
- Worcestershire
- Little Smokies
How To Make Little Smokies in the Crockpot
Open packages of smokies and drain any excess juice. Place little smokies inside crockpot.
In small mixing bowl combine ketchup, brown sugar, and worcestershire. Stir to combine and pour on top of smokies.
Cook on low for 2-3 hours.
Use wooden toothpicks in finished, plated smokies.
What do you eat with Little Smokies?
Even though this is technically an appetizer, many people eat these as a meal. When you pair it up with a few other foods, it’s totally possible to be able to do.
And if you decide that you do want to eat these slow cooker smokies with other food items, some good choices to pair with are:
- Salad
- Rice
- Baked Beans
- Potatoes
That is just a shortlist of the food items but you can easily pair them up with anything else that you’re craving or want to have.
How many Little Smokies come in a package?
Each package is going to have about 40-45 smokies inside. This is a good amount but they go quickly.
If you’re wondering how to plan for yourself and guests, you can easily estimate that the average person will consume between 8-10. This means that one package of Lil’ smokies should serve around 4-5 people.
How do you cook Little Smokies?
Even though I’m a big fan of cooking them up in the crockpot, there are actually several ways that you can cook up these mini sausages. The crockpot allows you to slow cook them and heat them up over the course of the day but if you need a quicker cooking method, you have other options.
Popping them in the microwave will literally take just a few moments of time but will have them hot and ready to eat fast, too.
You can also put them in the oven and bake them as well which can help them have a nice crispness to their outside casings.
Overall, you have to decide which method you prefer and like best. I tend to go towards the slow cooker aspect since I love adding in the extra sauce and flavors.
How do you know when Little Smokies are done?
Make certain to check on the package of your little smokies to see if they’re already fully cooked, first. More than likely, most of them are going to be, especially if they’re an already “smoked” flavoring. But again, double-check.
If they are already fully cooked, then you just need to make certain that you’re reheating and getting them up to temperature.
How To Serve Little Smokies
Not only are these simple to make, but they’re also super fun to eat! This is why they’re served at parties and other fun gatherings because they really do bring happiness to your tastebuds easily.
The good news is that you can easily serve these mini appetizers in so many different ways. If you have toothpicks lying around the house, that is all you’re really going to need!
And if you’re wanting to eat more than one at a time, putting them in a bowl or on a plate and eating with a fork works perfectly fine, too.
Can you freeze smokies once cooked?
You can but if they’re covered in sauce, it may end up having a weird or unique texture.
The best thing to do is to cook them up and store them in the fridge and enjoy them as leftovers. As long as you’re keeping them cool and in the fridge, they should be fine for several days to enjoy.
What are some dips to serve with Lil smokies?
Even though these little smokies are covered with a delicious sauce, you can STILL dip them in so many other fun dips.
This will vary based on your tastebuds and likes and can easily be swapped out as well.
Dips to consider for your little smokies:
- BBQ sauce
- Ranch dressing
- Blue cheese dressing
- Salsa
And those are just a few ideas! You really can’t go wrong with all these fun dip ideas and tastes.
Can you make this crockpot appetizer in advance?
You can but with how quick and simple it is, there really isn’t any reason to. And remember the bottom line. If for whatever reason you forget to put these in the crockpot to cook up during the day, you still have the comfort that you can easily cook them via the other methods listed above, too.
If you’re looking for a simple appetizer that can easily feed a crowd of people, you can’t go wrong with these Little Smokies. They’re full of wonderful flavor, are fast and easy to make, and require minimal effort on your part at all.
When it comes to having a great recipe ready for the big game, a holiday party, or just a fun weekend of snacking at home, there isn’t any reason why this shouldn’t be at the top of your recipe list!
