Watermelon Punch Drink
Outdoor parties are one of the best things about summertime. Give me a hot day, heat up the grill, and hand me a refreshing drink. While I love Classic Lemonade, I also love punch and as you can’t get much more refreshing than watermelon drinks, here is my amazing Watermelon Rum Punch. If you’re into watermelon but you prefer a cocktail, try my Watermelon Margarita, a light and refreshing take on the classic margarita.
Watermelon Punch is ready in just 5 minutes and made with only 5 ingredients, making it ideal for poolside parties and barbecues. It’s a great alcoholic drink for Fourth of July celebrations as part of a patriotic table spread, with its red color, and you can also check out my 4th of July Jello Shots for more adult-drink fun.
With this quick and easy recipe, there’ll be plenty of time to sit back and enjoy the party. When the pitcher runs out, a refill won’t take long either, so keep this recipe handy for hosting this summer.

How Do You Make Watermelon Rum Punch?
Step One: Put watermelon in blender.
- Slice the watermelon and add it to the blender.
Step Two: Add rum and fruit juices.
- Add the rum, orange juice, and lime juice.
Step Three: Blend.
- Blend well, about 60 seconds, until smooth.
Step Four: Garnish and serve.

Suggestions and Alternatives
- For a punch without any small chunks, you will need to strain the watermelon after blending it and discard the chunks. Put the fresh watermelon juice back in the blender, then add the other ingredients and blend.
- A high-speed blender or decent food processor with correct attachments will ensure the ice and watermelon chunks get blended thoroughly.
- For best results, use a ripe watermelon (it will blend smoothly).
- Use a seedless watermelon. If you can’t get hold of one, either remove the seeds before adding your watermelon to the blender, or strain the punch before you serve it.
- It’s best to use fresh lime juice to get the full impact of all the flavors,
- Try adding lemon, lime or orange slices, or watermelon wedges into your large pitcher of punch.
- Lime wheels make for a great decoration inside a glass pitcher or on top of the rim of the glass.
- Substitute orange juice with pineapple juice.
- Add some bubbly ginger beer to your punch for a ginger twist.
- Try adding strawberries, raspberries or blueberries to the punch either before blending it or before serving it for extra sweetness and a slightly different flavor.
- Garnish with fresh mint leaves or add a handful of mint leaves to the blender for a minty twist to your punch.
- You can add some jalapeño slices to the punch before serving to give it a spicy kick, or just add sliced jalapeños to the glass.
- Serve in a watermelon punch bowl for extra flair: Use a hollowed watermelon with a hole in the top about the diameter of a bowl, and pour in your punch, ice cubes, and additional fruits. Serve with a ladle.
What Alcohol Goes Well with Watermelon?
Spirits like gin, rum, tequila, and vodka go well with watermelon. The natural sweetness of watermelon makes drinks very palatable even with sour or sharp liquor.
What Flavor Goes with Watermelon?
To customise your punch, consider adding another fruit or a vegetable that compliments watermelon’s sweet flavors.
- Citrus fruits go well with watermelon; try adding lemon, lime or orange slices into your glass pitcher of punch.
- Other sweet fruits also complement watermelon; strawberries, raspberries and blueberries
- Veggies that you can serve with watermelon include: avocado, red onion, jalapeños, lettuce, and sweetcorn.
- Some herbs and spices that work well with watermelon are: mint, chili pepper, salt, ginger.
Why is My Watermelon Pink Instead of Red?
When it is fresh the watermelon flesh will have a red or hot pink color. If yours is a paler pink then your watermelon is overripe. It is best to use a ripe watermelon for this recipe.
