Alternatives and Suggestions
- High-speed blender – it’s best to use a high-speed blender to make sure the ice and watermelon chunks get blended thoroughly
- Ripe watermelon – make sure your watermelon is ripe so that it will blend smoothly.
- Seedless watermelon – make sure you’re using a seedless watermelon. If not, you’ll want to strain it before you pour into your beverage.
- Fresh lime juice – while you can use a pre-made lime juice, it’s best to use fresh lime juice to get the full flavors
- Mint leaves – add a few mint leaves as garnish or even in the blender if you like mint flavor
- Jalapeno slices – you can add a few jalapeno slices to the cocktail after you mix it to make it a spicy watermelon margarita. Just slice the jalapenos and put in the glass.
- Chili powder – add a little chili powder with the salt to rim your glasses to add a spicy kick to this drink.
Can I Make a Non-Alcoholic Version of this Watermelon Cocktail?
Yes, just replace the tequila and triple sec with water to achieve the same consistency.
How to Make a Frozen Watermelon Margarita
If you like a frozen margarita, you can cube the watermelon and freeze the cubes. Once frozen, use the cubed watermelon the blender with the other ingredients. You’ll end up with a frozen, slushy version of the drink.
How Do I Serve This On the Rocks?
If you want this watermelon margarita not to be slushy and to serve it “on the rocks,” leave out the ice when blending. Just blend the watermelon, lime juice, and alcohol until smooth. Then serve over ice.
You can even go a step further and use a fine mesh sieve to remove the watermelon pulp so you end up with more of the fresh watermelon juice. You might need to use more watermelon to achieve enough liquid if you strain it.
This easy watermelon margarita recipe is always a hit and is sure to become one of your favorite cocktails. Make individual glasses or a large pitcher and serve for your friends. They’ll love the watermelon flavor and probably tell you it’s the best summer drink ever!
