Valentine’s cake pops are a sweet treat for your kids or friends. They’re a fun and simple treat that will be the hit of any Valentine’s party.
Cake Pops
Cake pops are a fun way to make festive treats for holidays, birthday parties, and gatherings. The concept is simple: take a sheet cake and crumble it to pieces, then add premade frosting, stirring until you get a thick consistency.
Roll the cake mixture into balls and coat in melted chocolate. Decorate as desired. The decorating possibilities are endless with cake pops.
Ingredients
- prepared cake (use a boxed cake mix)
- cream cheese frosting
- red candy melts
- candy sticks
- sprinkles
How to Make Cake Pops
- Bake your cake mix according to the package instructions, as a sheet cake. Upon cooling, cut the cake in half and reserve the other half for dessert later on.
- In a large bowl, crumble half of the cake.
- Add in 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese frosting and mix together.
- Next, divide the cake mixture into 20 portions. With the palm of your hand, round out each portion into a ball shape.
- Place your cake pops on a sheet pan or plate, and place in the freezer for about 15 minutes.
- While the cake pops are in chilling, place the candy melts in a medium sized bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals until completely melted. Stir after each interval. The candy melts won’t look melted until you stir them.
- Remove the cake pops from the freezer.
- Place your cookie stick in the candy melt, then into the cake pop. Then add your cake pop to the candy melts. Coat the pop completely with the melted chocolate. Gently tap the cake pop on the side of the bowl to remove any excess chocolate and create a smooth finish.
- Place the cake pop on the parchment paper. Immediately add your sprinkles before the chocolate dries.
- Repeat until all the cake pops are coated in chocolate.
Variations
- Cake flavors. Experiment with different cake and frosting combinations. For a decadent cake pop, you could opt for a devil’s food cake mix paired with chocolate frosting.
- Colored melting chocolates. Candy melts come in a variety of colors so experiment with different colors to go with them of your party.
- Forgo the stick. You can make these into cake balls by leaving the stick off the balls. To do this, you’ll need a chocolate melting utensil or use a fork or toothpick to dip the cake ball into the melted chocolate.
