How to Make Dulce de Leche Fudge
Step One: Prepare the Fudge Mixture
- Line an 8 x 8 pan with parchment paper.
- Spoon ½ cup dulce de leche into a piping bag and cut off the tip and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, put the milk, white chocolate chips, butter, and ¼ cup dulce de leche and heat over low to medium heat.
- Stir the mixture until completely melted.
Step Two: Assemble the Fudge
- Pour half of the fudge into the prepared pan.
- Drizzle the dulce de leche onto the fudge, then pour the remaining fudge on top.
- Using the dulce de leche in the piping bag, pipe lines on the top of the fudge. Then pull a knife lightly through the top surface of the fudge to create a pretty design on top.
- Allow the fudge to harden overnight, then cut into 2-inch squares and serve.
Tips and Suggestions
- When slicing the fudge, dip a sharp knife into hot water, then dry it off and cut the squares. This will give your fudge extra smooth and sharp edges.
- Be sure to keep the fudge on a flat surface while it’s setting. Otherwise, the top may become uneven and it will be thicker in some spots than others.
- Be sure to use sweetened condensed milk and not evaporated milk. The evaporated milk doesn’t have added sugar like the condensed milk, so your fudge may not be sweet enough.
Variations
- Replace the dulce de leche that’s drizzled on top of the fudge with melted chocolate or white chocolate.
- Stir in some chopped walnuts or pecans before pouring the fudge into the pan.
- If you prefer thicker pieces of fudge, you can use a 6-in pan. Or try a loaf pan and cut your fudge into slices.
How Do I Store Dulce de Leche Fudge?
Wrap your fudge in wax paper and then store it in an airtight container. It should stay fresh for up to a week at room temperature or 2 weeks in the fridge. However, if you add nuts or other mix-ins, this may shorten the shelf life.
Can I Freeze Dulce de Leche Fudge?
You can! Just wrap it tightly with plastic wrap and then place it in a freezer bag or airtight container, and it should keep for up to 3 months in your freezer.
What Size Should My Servings Be?
This fudge is very rich and sweet, so a little goes a long way. I like to cut it into 1 to 2-inch square pieces.
