Frozen Berries and Cool Whip Smoothie
Simple smoothie recipes are so handy for making the kids a healthy sweet treat they can enjoy at the drop of a hat, so save this recipe. Our favorite smoothie recipes all include simple ingredients like greek yogurt or refrigerated whipped topping, like in this recipe, because we want smoothies to be convenient and hassle-free. You can even make smoothies in batches and save some in the fridge for the next morning.
Smoothies are an easy way to add vitamins and minerals to your diet too. Our Mango Pineapple Tropical Smoothie has lots of vitamin C thanks to the pineapple. Banana is also a popular ingredient in smoothies and it’s a good source of potassium. This recipe, however, contains milk which is a good source of calcium, and also berries which are rich in antioxidants.
While smoothies are a convenient way to get more healthy foods into our diet they are also fun to make. There are so many variations of this smoothie, why not try adding ice cream to the mix and putting a drizzle of chocolate sauce on top for a cool whip berry smoothie sundae for dessert!
This recipe is so easy that it’s a great one to get the kids involved in creating their own flavors.

Ingredients
Made with simple ingredients you probably already have at home.
- Milk – I used cow’s milk here, but you can use a dairy-free alternative like almond milk or coconut milk.
- Cool Whip – You can find this easily at your local store, or make your own.
- Frozen Mixed Berries, unsweetened – blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries.
How To Make Cool Whip Smoothie

- Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
Step Two: Pour into a glass and serve.
- Pour the blended berry mixture into a glass and serve immediately. Put whipped cream on top for added sweetness.
Suggestions and Alternatives
- Add any fruits you like to this recipe to mix it up. One of my favorites is a strawberry banana smoothie, or instead of berries use mango or apple.
- Make a dairy-free or vegan version of this recipe by using coconut cream or coconut whipping cream instead of Cool Whip, and use a plant-based milk rather than dairy.
- Add some oats to this smoothie to thicken it and make it filling for longer.
- You can change the texture of the smoothie and also add more nutritious goodness by adding some chia seeds to the mix. The seeds can be raw, but you can soak them in water before adding them. To do this put the chia seeds in water at a 1:10 ratio for 30 minutes to 2 hours, then drain as necessary and add them to the blender with the other ingredients.
- Top this smoothie with canned whipped cream for an extra special finish.
- Add a teaspoon of honey to add a little sweetness to your smoothie.
- Fresh mint works lovely in berry smoothies, especially those with strawberries. Use as a garnish with chopped fresh strawberries on top.
- Add some vanilla ice cream for an extra creamy smoothie or to make a berry smoothie sundae.
Question
Berry smoothies are a great source of nutrients and minerals. They are good to have on hand for on-the-go breakfasts or snacks as they are easier to carry and take less time to consume than eating whole fruit. When you are unwell and have a drop in appetite, smoothies are useful for getting food to your body with minimal effort used eating.
If you get a foamy top on your smoothie, don’t worry. These are just the insoluble fibers of the fruit. Simply blend it on low for a few more seconds, or if it is already in your cup, just stir it well.
Countertop: Smoothies are best enjoyed fresh after being made, but if you make a double batch or have leftovers, make sure to store them in the fridge.
Fridge: Place any extra smoothie in an airtight container or in a cup, fully sealed with plastc wrap or similar, in the fridge for up to two days. The ingredients may separate within this time, which is perfectly normal, just stir with a spoon for about 10 seconds before drinking.
Tips for Making This Recipe
- For best results use frozen berries, as this fruit is frozen fresh to retain full flavor, and will also make a refreshingly cool drink for you. It also adds to the thickness of the smoothie.
- For an even blend for your smoothie, keep an eye on your blender when it is on to ensure fruit doesn’t get stuck under the blades.
- If you use fresh berries be sure to wash them before adding them to the blender, and you may need to use some fruit juice in the mix if your smoothie is too thick. Apple juice has a fairly neutral flavor that combines well with most fruit.

I was super excited about this recipe, so I gave it a go. It came out a little thick. I didn’t have juice to add to it, so I contemplated adding some more milk. Then I got the idea of adding in a full 5.3 oz cup of Dannon Light + Fix Greek Blackberry yogurt. This came out AMAZING! The texture was so incredibly smooth, and it tasted delicious! I definitely recommend following this recipe but also blending in some of this yogurt too! I used frozen Great Value “Berry Medley” fruit for this recipe.
Thanks for sharing this great recipe for me to try!! 🙂
