How to Make Halloween Bark
Step One: Form the Bark
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper and set aside.
- Place each of the 4 different colors of chocolate in separate microwave-safe bowls.
- Microwave each color of chocolate in 30-second increments, stirring in between each increment until melted and smooth.
It’s important to move quickly at this state so the chocolate doesn’t set up while you’re waiting to pour the colors on the sheet pan.
- Place dollops of the colored chocolate on the lined baking sheet and swirl the colors together.
Step Two: Decorate
- Separate the sandwich cookies and place 2 with the cream side up next to each other to create eyes.
- Do the same with the smaller cookies and then add M&Ms to make the pupils.
- Repeat with as many sets of eyes as you like.
- Sprinkle the Halloween sprinkles over the bark.
- Let the bark rest at room temperature until the chocolate is set. Break into pieces and serve.
Tips and Suggestions
- If you want the bark to set more quickly, you can place it in the fridge for about 20 minutes.
- Melting chocolate isn’t always carried in the regular grocery store, but you can usually find it at Wal-Mart or in craft stores.
- Break up the sheet of bark into some smaller pieces and some larger ones, so you have a variety of serving sizes.
Variations
- Almond bark – use chocolate almond bark as the base and top with orange and purple melting chocolate
- Keep it simple – you can simplify this recipe by just using the black and orange melting chocolate.
- Halloween sprinkles – you can skip the Oreo eyes and use Halloween themed sprinkles or candy eyeballs.
- Change the colors – get creative and try this recipe with any colors of melting chocolate for different holidays and occasions.
- Leftover Halloween candy – sprinkle your favorite leftover candy on top of the bark. M&Ms, Reese’s Pieces or candy corn would all be delicious.
- Candy Eyes – add edible candy eyes to the bark
Store your leftover bark in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
Sure – You can use milk, white, or dark chocolate, or try a combination. Note the colors won’t be the same if you use regular chocolate. To get vibrant colors, use the candy melts.
