Crockpot Honey Garlic Chicken Variations
- Chicken: You can substitute the cubed breasts with shredded chicken, boneless skinless chicken thighs or even cubed pork if you like.
- Noodles: Thick spaghetti noodles work great, but you can even use angel hair or ramen noodles if you like. Instead of pasta, you can use brown rice, regular white rice or even cauliflower rice.
- Ketchup: Instead of ketchup you can thin out tomato paste with a little water and add a pinch of brown sugar to sweeten it.
- Spices: You can add a little bit of cayenne, a pinch of red pepper flakes or sriracha for a little kick.
- Garnishes: I like to garnish with scallions or spring onions, but you can garnish with sesame seeds too.
Can I Put Frozen Chicken in the Slow Cooker?
Technically, it’s okay to cook chicken from the frozen state in the slow cooker but, chicken cooks best when you thaw it first. This allows the chicken to cook evenly. It also allows the seasonings and juices to soak into the fibers of the meat making it super tender.
Whether you’re cooking it from a thawed state or from frozen, for it to be considered safe to eat, chicken should always be cooked to internal temperature of 165° F on an instant-read meat thermometer.
Can I Add Other Veggies?
Of course. Stir in some broccoli or cauliflower florets, other colored bell peppers, thin slices of carrots or snap peas.
How Do I Thicken My Sauce?
If your sauce is runny, add in a few more teaspoons of cornstarch slurry and allow it time to cook and thicken.
How Can I Thin Out the Sticky Sauce?
If the crock pot honey garlic chicken sauce is too thick, just add a little water at a time until it reaches the consistency you’re looking for.
