How to Make Reindeer Oreos
Step One: Prepare the Ingredients
- Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
- Melt the black candy melts in a double boiler over low heat. You can also melt them in a bowl in the microwave on a low setting in 30 second increments.
- Once melted, allow the candy to cool for 2-3 minutes before pouring it into a small piping bag fitted with a Wilton #3 tip.
- On one of the prepared baking sheets, form your antlers by piping two letter Vs on top of each other with a line down the center connecting them. Try to keep them uniform and between 1 inch and 1 ¼ inches in length. Set the antlers aside to harden.
Step Two: Dip the Oreos
- Melt the dark chocolate melting wafers in a double boiler over low heat or in a bowl in the microwave.
- Dip one Oreo into the melted dark chocolate and lift it out with a fork. Tap the fork against the edge of the double boiler or bowl to remove any excess chocolate.
- Place the coated Oreo onto the other prepared baking sheet. Repeat with 2-3 more Oreos.
Step Three: Add the Reindeer Faces
- Once you have 3-4 Oreos coated, place two eyes and an M&M nose onto each one.
- Repeat with the rest of the cookies, working in small batches.
- After you’ve added the faces to a batch, then add the antlers.
- Allow the reindeer Oreos to set completely for at least 15 minutes. If desired, you can place the baking sheet into the refrigerator to set more quickly.
Tips and Suggestions
- Make sure the melted black candy has cooled down for a few minutes before piping the antlers. If it’s too hot, it will come out too fast.
- If you don’t have a #3 tip, just use the piping bag without the tip and cut a small piece off the end. In a pinch, a Ziploc bag will also work.
- It’s best to add the reindeer faces in batches of 3 or 4, so the chocolate doesn’t set fully before you get to them. Add the antlers after finishing the faces for the batch to give the chocolate a little more time to harden. If it’s too melted, the antlers will slide off.
- When melting chocolate or candy melts, be sure to stir often to allow even heating and to keep the candy from seizing.
Variations
- You can use any variety of Oreos you prefer in this recipe. You could also use Nutter Butter cookies in place of the Oreos.
- Instead of piping the antlers with candy melts, you can use halved mini pretzels and stick them into the cookie filling.
- You can use mini M&Ms or candy eyes in place of the black sugar pearls.
How Do I Store Reindeer Oreos?
Store your reindeer Oreos in a single layer in an airtight container. You can store them either at room temperature or in the fridge and they should last for up to five days.
Can I Freeze Them?
Yes – they’ll freeze well for up to 3 months, but be sure to store them in a single layer so the candy doesn’t come off and the antlers don’t break.

Reindeer Oreos
Equipment
- Baking trays
- Parchment paper
- double boiler
- Small piping bag
- Wilton #3 tip
Ingredients
- 20 Double Stuf Oreo cookies
- 15 ounces dark chocolate melting wafers we used Ghirardelli
- ¾ cup black candy melts for the antlers (I used Melt ‘Ems brand)
- 40 black sugar pearls for the eyes
- 40 pieces brown and red M&Ms for the nose
Instructions
- Line two baking trays with parchment paper and set aside.
- Melt the black candy melts in a double boiler over low heat or in a bowl in the microwave on a low or defrost setting in 30 second increments. Stir often to allow even heating and to avoid the melts from seizing.
- Once melted, allow the black candy melts to cool for 2-3 minutes before pouring into a small piping bag fitted with a Wilton #3 tip. If you do not have a tip, you can use it without the tip and just snip a tiny piece off the end of the piping bag once it has cooled down for a few minutes.
- On one of the prepared baking trays, pipe small antlers by piping two letter ‘V’s on top of each other with a line down the center connecting them. You can also opt to create your own antler design. Try to keep them uniform and between 1 inch to 1 ¼ inch in length.
- Remember, if the candy melts are too hot, it will come out too fast. Make sure it has cooled down for a few minutes before piping. Set aside and allow the antlers to harden.
- Melt the dark chocolate melting wafers in a double boiler over low heat or in a bowl in the microwave on a low or defrost setting in 30 second increments, stirring often to allow even heating.
- Dip one oreo at a time into the melted dark chocolate and lift it out with a fork. Tap the fork against the edge of the double boiler or bowl to remove any excess coating. Place the coated oreo onto the other prepared baking tray. Repeat coating 2-3 more oreos and place on the tray.
- Once you have 3-4 oreos coated, place two eyes onto each one and then place one M&M for the nose onto each one. It’s best to start on the face and work in batches. Move quickly before the chocolate sets and then add the antlers onto them. (Before placing on the antlers, the chocolate cannot be too melted otherwise the antlers will slide off.)
- Repeat with the rest of the Oreos, working in small batches. Then allow the reindeer oreos to set completely for at least 15 minutes. You can place the baking tray into the refrigerator to set faster if desired. Enjoy!
