Ingredients
- Double Stuff Oreos
- Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers
- White melting wafers
- Orange M&M minis, cut in half
- Candy eyes
- Pull n Peel Twizzlers, pulled apart and cut into 2” long pieces
- Black melting wafers (optional for drawing bow ties and buttons)
Instructions
Step One: Make the Chocolate Covered Oreos
- Line your baking sheets with parchment paper and set them aside.
- Using a double boiler, melt the dark chocolate wafers until smooth.
- Submerge one Oreo in the melted chocolate, making sure it is evenly coated. Lift it out with a fork and tap it lightly on the edge of the pot to remove the excess chocolate.
- Transfer the chocolate covered Oreo to the lined baking sheet, then repeat the process with the rest of the cookies.
Step Two: Add the Penguin Decorations
- Place one white melting wafer on the Oreo, centered in the bottom half of the cookie. Center the orange M&M half right above it, then add the two candy eyes.
- Add two peppermint candies (one on each side of the penguin) to make the earmuffs. Then, attach a 2-inch piece of Twizzler for the strap. Add the penguin features to the rest of the Oreos, then place the finished cookies in the fridge for 10 minutes or until the chocolate is set.
- Optional – Melt some black melting wafers and draw a bow tie and buttons on the penguin’s belly
Suggestions and Tips
- If you don’t have a double boiler, you can melt the wafers in the microwave. Just be sure to remove and stir often so the chocolate doesn’t burn.
- For best results, add the Twizzler earmuff strap last after adding the rest of the decorations. This will allow the chocolate to set and will make it easier for the Twizzler to stay in place.
Variations:
- In place of the Twizzlers, you can use Sour Punch Straws and cut them to size.
- You can use green starlight mints or other round hard candies to give your penguins a variety of different earmuffs.
- Substitute any flavor of Oreos that you prefer, such as golden, peppermint, or double chocolate. You can also use the regular or mega stuff variety.
How Do I Store Oreo Penguins?
You can store these in the refrigerator or at room temperature. Keep them in an airtight container and they should last for up to 2 weeks.
