Halloween Popcorn Balls

These Halloween Popcorn Balls are fun treat on a stick. Made with popcorn, and melted marshmallows they are a perfect sweet and salty treat. They’re perfect for a Halloween party and the kids love them.

Similar to Rice Krispies treats, replace the cereal with popped popcorn then form it into balls. You can add a straw into the center of the ball to make an easy handle for little hands and added flair. These popcorn balls are a sweet treat that you’ll want to keep eating.

Special Tools Needed

  • large stock pot for the stove to cook and mix
  • paper straws

Ingredients

marshmallows, popcorn bags, butter, and sprinkles on counter
  • mini marshmallows
  • microwave popcorn (or any type of popcorn)
  • butter
  • Halloween sprinkles

Instructions

Line a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper and set aside.

Step One: Melt Butter and Marshmallows

  • Pop your popcorn, and separate any unpopped kernels. Set aside.
  • In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Once butter is melted, add mini marshmallows, and cook, stirring frequently, until melted.
  • Once marshmallows have melted completely and are incorporated, pour popped popcorn into the pot.

Step Two: Combine Melted Marshmallows and Popcorn

  • Stir, coating all of the popcorn in the butter/marshmallow mixture. This will take some time and some muscle, keep stirring until everything is well mixed together and all of the popcorn is coated. 
  • Add sprinkles, and mix to distribute sprinkles throughout the mix.

Step Three: Form Balls and Decorate

  • Spray your hands with non-stick spray and grab a handful of the popcorn marshmallow mixture.
  • Form the popcorn into balls, about softball sized.
  • Place the popcorn balls onto your parchment paper.
  • Repeat until all of the mixture has been used.
  • Poke paper straws into the popcorn balls, if desired, and sprinkle with a few extra sprinkles.

Tips

  • Sprinkles – make these for any holiday by changing out the sprinkles and color of the straws.
  • Put vegetable shortening on your hands before you roll the popcorn into balls. It will keep the balls from sticking to your hands.

You can store them in an airtight container for a few days.
