Tips and Suggestions

  • Don’t attempt to make this recipe with regular burger patties that don’t have the egg, breadcrumbs, and other binding ingredients. Since the meat cooks for such a long time, it may break apart if you use plain ground beef.
  • You may be tempted to skip searing the patties before placing them in the slow cooker if you’re trying to save time. But searing adds great flavor and also helps the burgers to hold their shape, so for best results, I don’t recommend skipping this step.
  • Spray the bottom of your slow cooker with cooking spray to help prevent sticking.

Variations

  • You can use ground turkey in place of the ground beef in this recipe.
  • If you don’t like mushrooms, you can substitute cream of onion soup or cream of chicken soup for the mushroom soup.
  • Add some fresh sliced onions and fresh mushrooms to the slow cooker along with the burgers.
  • You can replace some of the water in the gravy mixture with beef broth.
