Air Fryer Wings

When it comes to game day snacks, my Air Fryer Buffalo Wings are hands-down the best. I’ve tested and perfected this recipe to make sure every batch delivers juicy wings with golden, crispy skin. By patting the wings dry and tossing them with baking powder, you get that crave-worthy crunch without the need for deep frying.

The real difference is the sauce. It’s made completely from scratch using Frank’s Red Hot, butter, garlic powder, and Worcestershire, so you’re not stuck with the flavor of bottled sauces. You can adjust the heat to your liking, which makes every bite exactly how you want it. With just a few simple ingredients and my easy steps, you’ve got yourself the ultimate appetizer for your next game night or Super Bowl party.

Why My Air Fryer Buffalo Wings Are the Best

  • Unbeatable crispiness – Using baking powder ensures these wings have extra crispy skin without the greasiness of deep frying.
  • Perfectly balanced Buffalo sauce – My buffalo wing sauce has the ideal balance of buttery richness and spicy kick that you can easily customize.
  • Consistently juicy – Cooking the wings in the air fryer locks in the juices, giving you juicy chicken wings every single batch.
  • Easier cleanup – Without messy oil and a greasy frying pan to clean up, these wings are perfect for busy moms on hectic weeknights.

What You’ll Need for These Buffalo Chicken Wings

Below is a list of the ingredients you’ll need to make this recipe. Scroll down to the full recipe card for the specific amounts.

Ingredients for Air Fryer Buffalo Wings include chicken wings on a plate with spices, butter, parsley, and sauces around. Canola oil spray can also visible on a wooden surface.
  • Cooking spray – Essential for getting that perfect, crispy skin and it also keeps them from sticking to the basket.
  • Chicken wings – You’ll use flats and drumettes that have been separated.
  • Coarse salt and ground black pepper – Enhances flavor, making wings delicious from the inside out.
  • Baking powder – The secret to extra crispy wings without deep frying.
  • Hot sauce – You can use your favorite brand. I use Frank’s Red Hot sauce to give them authentic buffalo flavor.
  • Melted butter – Adds richness and balances the heat of the hot sauce.
  • Garlic powder – Brings savory garlic flavor without the harshness of fresh garlic.
  • Worcestershire sauce – Adds a touch of tangy depth to your sauce.
  • Fresh parsley – Brightens the dish with fresh flavor and color.
  • Ranch dressing (or preferred dipping sauce) – The perfect creamy complement to spicy, crispy chicken wings.

How to Make Buffalo Chicken Wings in the Air Fryer

Here are my step-by-step instructions so you can make this recipe with ease. For the full, printable recipe with amounts and temperatures, scroll down to the recipe card below.

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. This usually takes about 5 minutes.
  2. Blot the chicken wings dry with a paper towel for crispier skin.
  3. In a large bowl, mix salt, pepper, and baking powder. Add the wings and toss until evenly coated.
  4. Spray the air fryer basket with non-stick spray.
  5. Arrange wings in the basket skin-side down, making sure they don’t touch.
  6. Air fry for 10 minutes, flip the wings, and cook for an additional 6–8 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. The internal temperature should reach 185° F for the best texture.
  7. Serve your crispy chicken wings hot and enjoy.

Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Chicken Wings

  • Always pat wings completely dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture for maximum crispiness.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. Arrange wings in a single layer with enough room around each for best results.
  • Use nonstick cooking spray generously to prevent sticking and enhance crispness.
  • Check internal temperature with a meat thermometer to ensure wings reach at least 185 degrees F.
  • Shake or flip wings halfway through cooking time for even browning.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley for a fresh pop of color.
  • Preheat your air fryer fully to ensure consistent cooking every time.

Suggestions and Alternatives

  • Lemon pepper wings – Toss cooked wings in lemon pepper seasoning and a drizzle of olive oil.
  • BBQ sauce – Swap the buffalo wing sauce with your favorite barbecue sauce for a sweet twist.
  • Blue cheese dressing – Serve wings with blue cheese dressing instead of ranch as an alternative dipping sauce.
  • Spicy garlic wings – Add extra garlic powder or freshly minced garlic to the buffalo sauce.
  • Honey buffalo – Mix a tablespoon of honey into your buffalo sauce for a sweet and spicy kick.
  • Teriyaki style – Coat wings in your favorite teriyaki sauce after cooking for an Asian-inspired flavor.
  • Extra hot – Add cayenne pepper or more hot sauce to increase the heat for spice lovers.

Storage and Freezer Tips

  • Refrigerate – Place wings in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Freeze – Let wings cool to room temperature, then store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Can I Cook Frozen Wings Directly in the Air Fryer?

You can, but I do not prefer them cooked that way. I prefer to thaw the wings to room temperature first for optimal crispiness and even cooking.

Why Are My Wings Soggy Instead of Crispy?

To prevent soggy wings, make sure the wings are thoroughly dried, lightly coated with baking powder, and arranged in a single layer without overcrowding.

What if I Don’t Have Frank’s Red Hot Sauce?

Use any favorite wing sauce or hot sauce as a good choice replacement.

How Can I Keep Wings Crispy After Cooking?

Store leftover cooked wings loosely covered and reheat briefly in a toaster oven or air fryer at low heat.

Does Cooking Time Vary Based on Air Fryer Size?

Yes, adjust cook time slightly depending on the size of your air fryer and the number of wings you cook at once.
