How to Make Oreo Muddy Buddies
You are going to make two batches of muddy buddies: one will be white chocolate, the other will be milk chocolate. At the end you will mix them together for a combined black and white Oreo Muddy Buddies treat. Here are the step-by-step directions:
Step One: Prepare the Ingredients

- Divide the Chex cereal in half and place it into two separate bowls, with 2 ½ cups cereal in each bowl.
- Add 1 cup of powdered sugar to a gallon size zip top plastic bag and set aside for later.
- Remove the Oreo filling from all the cookies and set aside for later use.
- Using a food processor, pulse the Oreo cookies until they become fine crumbs

- Place the Oreo crumbs in a gallon size zip top plastic bag, add half a cup of powdered sugar and seal the bag. Shake until the ingredients are combined.
Step Two: Add the White Chocolate

- In a microwave-safe bowl, place the white chocolate chips and melt for 25 seconds. Once completely melted, add the Oreo filling you removed earlier and stir to combine.

- Add the melted white chocolate mixture to one large bowl of Chex cereal and stir until the Chex cereal is completely coated.
- Scoop the coated Chex into the zip top bag filled with only the powdered sugar and shake to coat the Chex cereal completely.
Step Three: Add the Milk Chocolate

- In a microwave safe bowl add the milk chocolate chips and melt for 25 seconds.
- Add the melted chocolate to the second bowl of Chex and stir until the Chex cereal is completely coated
- Then, scoop the coated Chex into a zip top bag filled with the Oreo crumbs and powdered sugar and shake to coat the Chex cereal completely.
- Spread the contents of each bag out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let set for at least 30 minutes until the chocolate has hardened.

- Once it has set, transfer the mixture to a bowl and toss to combine the white and milk chocolate pieces.
Tips and Suggestions
- If the white chocolate begins to seize, you can add a little bit of coconut oil and reheat.
- Use a rubber spatula coated in coconut oil when mixing the chocolate and cereal to prevent the chocolate from sticking to the spatula
- Instead of using a food processor, you can make the Oreo crumbs, by placing the cookies in a Ziplock back and using a rolling pin to crush them.
Variations
- Add some mini Oreo cookies into your finished mix for even more sweet Oreo flavor.
- Use pumpkin spice Oreos and Cinnamon Chex cereal to put a holiday twist on this classic
- Try Blueberry Chex cereal, dried blueberries, and Vanilla Oreos for a fruity flavored snack.
- Use a mixture of dark chocolate and peanut butter, then coat in powdered sugar to make the traditional version with a chocolate peanut butter flavor.
How Do I Store Oreo Muddy Buddies?
You can store the Oreo Muddy Buddies in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days or in the fridge for up to a week.
Can I make a Gluten Free Version?
All Chex cereal is gluten free except for Wheat Chex. If you use gluten free Oreos instead of regular, the entire treat is gluten free!
