Hot Cocoa Dip Recipe Tips
- Don’t worry if your dip thickens while refrigerated – that’s totally normal! You can soften it up by simply adding in some milk or water until it’s easily scoopable again and it’ll still be as delicious as it was when first made.
- Don’t leave this dip out at room temperature for more than 1-2 hours otherwise it will spoil.
- For a more decadent hot chocolate dip, consider adding in some chopped up candy or chocolate chips! You could even crush up some Oreos and add that for a delicious bit of crunch.
- Apart from the mini marshmallows, you could also decorate and top your hot chocolate dip with sprinkles, Candy Coated Chocolate Pearls, or a light dusting of hot chocolate mix.
- Transform this hot chocolate dip into a Mexican Hot Chocolate Dip by simply adding in a teaspoon of cinnamon into the mix!
- Use an electric mixer when combining the dip ingredients – the marshmallow fluff can be quite sticky and will stick to a mixing spoon, making it a little tricky to mix by hand.
- Get festive by serving this hot chocolate dip in a bright and cheerful holiday serving bowl.
Hot Chocolate Dip Recipe Variations
- chocolate syrup – use our homemade chocolate sauce or some chocolate syrup to drizzle on top of the dip
- peanut butter chips – garnish with peanut butter chips for an added flavor
- cayenne pepper – sprinkle a tiny bit (not too much) cayenne pepper on top for an added kick. I wouldn’t do this if you’re serving kids!

How to store Hot Chocolate Dip with Cream Cheese
This stores well in the refrigerator for 5 days. Wrap the bowl containing the dip tightly with plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container till ready to serve.
Since this dessert dip contains cream-based ingredients, it shouldn’t sit out at room temperature for longer than 1-2 hours. When not in use, make sure to pop it back into the refrigerator.
Can Hot Cocoa Dip be frozen?
Absolutely! You can freeze hot chocolate dip for up to one month, but you should leave the mini marshmallow garnish off when storing it in the freezer and rather serve fresh mini marshmallows just prior to serving.
Thaw your frozen dip overnight in the refrigerator and serve chilled.
This easy holiday dessert could be put into small individual cups for holiday parties.
