Pigs in a Blanket Air Fryer Recipe

My family has always loved pigs in a blanket, but I’m not always in the mood to heat up the whole oven just for a simple snack. I took the traditional recipe and made it super easy by using the same crescent roll dough and little smokies combo, but I tossed them in the air fryer for that perfect golden brown crust. The result is crispy, buttery crescent dogs that are just the right size, and they cook up beautifully with very little effort.

What really sets this easy appetizer recipe apart is the cooking time. From start to finish, you’ll have cocktail sausages wrapped, air-fried, and ready to eat in about 10 minutes flat.

I love to use cocktail sausages for other delicious appetizers. Be sure you check out my Bacon Wrapped Smokies and Crock Pot Lil Smokies.

What Sets My Recipe Apart

  • Quick! – Just 10 minutes start to finish.
  • Golden brown, every time – Air frying gives the buttery crescent dough that ideal golden brown finish with no guesswork or soggy spots. These mini pigs come out consistently crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
  • No oven needed, no mess – Unlike other recipes, mine skips the baking sheet and oven entirely. Just place them in the air fryer basket, and the hot air does all the work with little cleanup.
  • Sized just right- I cut the crescent roll dough into smaller triangles so each little sausage is wrapped snugly and cooks evenly. No doughy spots or overcooked ends. Just perfect little bites every time.

What’s Needed to Make Pigs in a Blanket

Below is a list of the ingredients you’ll need to make this recipe. Scroll down to the full recipe card for the specific amounts.

Mini sausages in a bowl, a plate with crescent dough, a small bowl of salt, a pat of butter, and a blue striped cloth on a marble surface.
  • Crescent rolls – Buttery crescent roll dough is the key to that soft, flaky blanket around each sausage. It crisps up perfectly in the air fryer.
  • Lil Smokies Smoked Sausage – These mini sausages are packed with flavor and the perfect size for wrapping. Use pork sausage or turkey sausage; both work great.
  • Butter, melted – Brushed over the top before air frying for extra flavor and that beautiful golden brown finish.
  • Kosher salt to garnish – Just a sprinkle adds the perfect salty bite and enhances the buttery crescent rolls.

How to Make Easy Air Fryer Pigs in a Blanket

Here are my step-by-step instructions so you can make this recipe with ease. For the full, printable recipe with amounts and temperatures, scroll down to the recipe card below.

  1. Remove your crescent roll dough from its tube and lay it out on a lightly floured surface. Separate the perforated lines for each crescent roll. Then, with a sharp knife or pizza cutter, divide each crescent roll into three triangles.
  2. With the shorter side of the triangle, place your sausage and roll until you reach the end of your triangle. Continue until you have finished using all your crescent roll triangles.
  3. Place your pigs in a blanket in your air fryer basket in a single layer. The size of your air fryer may vary, so put as many as you can in your basket while leaving enough space for the crescent roll to expand.
  4. Brush your melted butter over each pig in a blanket, focusing on the crescent roll. Add a sprinkle of kosher salt to each pig in a blanket.
  5. Cook at 375° for about 8 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Remove and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces, such as ketchup, BBQ sauce, honey mustard, Dijon mustard, Ranch, mustard, and so much more!
  • Cook in a single layer – This ensures each of the wrapped cocktail weenies cooks evenly and gets crispy.
  • Line your cooker – Use parchment paper or an air fryer liner for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  • Adjust cook time – If using frozen smokies, add 2 extra minutes to the cooking time and check for golden brown color.
  • Dry them – Dab paper towels over the lit’l smokies before wrapping to remove excess moisture, helping the dough stay crisp.
  • Cook in batches – Be mindful of the size of your air fryer. If it’s on the smaller side, work in batches so they all cook evenly.

Suggestions and Alternatives

  • Add cheese – Wrap a small slice of cheddar or pepper jack with the sausage for a melty, cheesy center.
  • Spicy version – Add a thin slice of jalapeño before wrapping or use spicy Lit’l Smokies for extra heat.
  • Bacon-wrapped pigs – Wrap a half slice of bacon around the sausage before covering with crescent dough for added flavor and crispiness.
  • Seasoned topping – Sprinkle bagel seasoning, sesame seeds, or garlic powder on top after brushing with butter.
  • Sweet and savory – Brush with a bit of honey or maple syrup before cooking for a sweet glaze.
  • Swap the dough – Use puff pastry instead of crescent roll dough for a flakier crust, or biscuit dough for a heartier version.
  • Cheesy topping – Sprinkle shredded Parmesan or cheddar over the top before air frying for a cheesy crust on the outside.
  • Different sausages – Try turkey sausage, chipolata sausages, or other mini sausage varieties based on your preference.
  • Stuffed pigs – Add a dab of cream cheese inside before wrapping for a flavor boost.
  • Extra buttery – Brush with seasoned butter (add garlic or herbs) before and after cooking for more richness.

Storage Tips

  • Refrigerator – You can store leftovers in an airtight container lined with paper towels, once they have cooled to room temperature. Keep refrigerated for up to 3 days.
  • Freezer – You can also freeze them by placing them in a freezer bag or wrapping them tightly in plastic wrap. Freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat directly from frozen at 350°F for 3-4 minutes.
Can I make this pigs in a blanket recipe ahead of time and reheat them?

Yes, prep and wrap them, then store in the fridge with plastic wrap. Reheat in the air fryer for 3-4 minutes until warm.

What if my pigs are browning too quickly?

Reduce the degrees F to 350 and increase the cooking time slightly. Watch closely for that golden brown finish.

How do I prevent my dough from unrolling during cooking?

Press the edges of the crescent roll dough firmly before placing in the air fryer. Brushing with butter also helps it stay sealed.

Why is my dough not cooking through?

Make sure your air fryer basket isn’t overcrowded. Always cook in a single layer for even air circulation.
