- In a medium size pan over low heat melt butter and chocolate chips stirring frequently until completely melted and smooth.
- Remove from heat and whisk in sugar until well mixed.

- Pour the red velvet brownie batter into your prepared pan, and smooth evenly.
- Place in oven and bake for about 45-55 minutes – baking time will vary depending on if you’re using a metal or glass pan. Set a timer for 30 minutes and check for doneness by inserting a toothpick about 3 inches in from the edge of the pan to see if it comes out clean. If not continue to bake and check every 5-10 minutes.
- Once baked remove from the oven and place on a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
- Once the brownies have cooled it is time to make the frosting.
- Place cream cheese and butter in a medium size bowl and cream together with an electric mixer.
- Add in vanilla and then add powdered sugar, a cup at time until all the sugar is incorporated.
- Spread the frosting evenly across the top of the brownie layer. Sprinkle with colorful sprinkles if desired.
- Remove from the pan and cut into 9 squares.
- Store in an airtight container.
About Red Food Coloring
Note- It is important to use no-taste red food coloring. Regular liquid or gel food coloring can leave a bitter taste when used in large quantities.
Can I Use Cocoa Powder?
While many brownie recipes use cocoa powder, this recipes uses semi-sweet chocolate chips. You can not simply replace the chocolate chips with cocoa because the chocolate chips contain cocoa butter and you’ll end up with too much butter in the recipe.
These decadent red velvet brownies are sure to be a hit wherever you serve them. The deep chocolate flavor paired with the tangy cream cheese frosting makes this a recipe to keep!
