Can I Freeze Leftover Shrimp Pasta?
Because the shrimp are pan seared and not breaded, it freezes very well. Allow the dish to cool to room temperature, then place in an airtight container in the freezer for up to a few months.
To thaw, place in the fridge overnight, then reheat it in a sauce pan or in the microwave just until warmed through.
Tips for Buying and Preparing Shrimp
- For a time saving tip, look for easy peel shrimp. The back of the shrimp is already split for you, making peeling and deveining a breeze.
- When buying frozen shrimp, check the listed ingredients on the label. You should only see two ingredients, water and shrimp. Some companies use preservatives or other ingredients that can give shrimp an odd and not so fresh taste.
- If you’re buying fresh shrimp for this recipe, you’ll want to look for sign of freshness. Shrimp should feel firm to the touch and should not have a strong “fishy” or ammonia smell.
- If you’re needing a quick meal for busy nights but forgot to thaw out your shrimp, just place them in a bowl of cold water (not warm) and they should thaw within an hour. Change out the water about every 15 minutes.
- If feeding a crowd, you should plan on approximately 3 ounces of uncooked shrimp per person.
- Determine size shrimp based on the type of recipe. Jumbo shrimp are excellent for grilling and sheet pan meals. For pan searing and pasta dishes, medium to large ideal. Small shrimp work really well in dips, soups and gumbos.
