My air fryer frozen chicken wings go from freezer to crispy, saucy perfection in under 35 minutes, no thawing required. I make these on game days, weeknights, and any time my family wants wings without a trip to a restaurant. Six simple seasonings and a bag of frozen wings are all you need to get dinner on the table fast.

My Crispy Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Wings
I started making these because I always seemed to have frozen wings in the freezer but no plan for dinner. The air fryer changed everything. No need to remember to thaw anything the night before, no deep-frying mess, and no waiting for the oven to heat up and take forever. I just pull the wings straight from the freezer and let the air fryer do its thing.

My family goes crazy for these every single time. My husband says they rival his favorite sports bar wings, and my kids request them at least once a week. The skin gets genuinely crispy and the meat stays juicy, which is exactly what you want from a chicken wing. A quick toss in Buffalo sauce at the end and they disappear in minutes.

Why You’ll Love These Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Wings
- No thawing needed – You go straight from freezer to air fryer, which means wings are on the table in about 35 minutes any time the craving hits.
- Perfectly crispy skin – The high heat of the air fryer crisps up the skin beautifully without a drop of deep-frying oil or any greasy mess.
- Easy to customize – The simple seasoning blend works as a base for any sauce you love, from Buffalo to honey garlic to garlic Parmesan.
Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Wings Ingredients

Below is a list of the ingredients you’ll need to make this recipe. Scroll down to the full recipe card for the specific amounts.
- Frozen chicken wings – 2 pounds is enough for 4 people as an appetizer or a light dinner. No need to thaw first.
- Avocado oil or olive oil – Just 1 tablespoon helps the seasonings stick to the wings and encourages extra crispy skin. You can skip it, but the skin won’t be quite as crisp.
- Garlic powder – Adds savory depth to every bite without any chopping.
- Smoked paprika – Gives the wings a subtle smoky flavor and a beautiful color.
- Onion powder – Rounds out the seasoning blend and adds a little warmth.
- Black pepper – Keeps things simple and classic.
- Salt – Brings all the seasonings together.
- Buffalo sauce – 1/2 cup is the perfect amount for coating 2 pounds of wings. Swap for your favorite wing sauce if Buffalo isn’t your thing.
Substitutions or Variations (don’t have to include)
- No Buffalo sauce? Toss the wings in BBQ sauce, honey garlic sauce, garlic Parmesan sauce, teriyaki sauce, sweet chili sauce, or lemon pepper butter instead.
- Want them even crispier? Add 2 to 3 extra minutes at the end of cook time and make sure the basket isn’t overcrowded.
- Using fresh wings instead of frozen? Cook at 400 degrees F for about 20 minutes, flipping halfway through. Fresh wings cook faster and won’t need the initial 10-minute thaw step.
How to Make Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Wings
Here are my step-by-step instructions so you can make this recipe with ease. For the full, printable recipe with amounts and temperatures, scroll down to the recipe card below.

- Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees F.
- Arrange the frozen chicken wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
- Cook for 10 minutes to thaw the wings.
- Carefully remove the basket and drain any excess liquid.

- Toss the wings with the avocado oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, black pepper, and salt until evenly coated.
- Increase the air fryer temperature to 400 degrees F.
- Return the wings to the air fryer and cook for an additional 18 to 22 minutes, shaking the basket every 6 to 7 minutes for even cooking.

- For extra crispy wings, cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes if desired.
- Toss with Buffalo sauce and serve immediately.

- Don’t skip draining the liquid – After the first 10 minutes, there will be liquid in the basket from the frozen wings thawing. Draining it before adding the seasoning helps the skin crisp up properly instead of steaming.
- Shake the basket regularly – Every 6 to 7 minutes is the sweet spot. This ensures all sides get exposed to the hot air and crisp up evenly.
- Don’t overcrowd the basket – A single layer is key. If you pile the wings on top of each other, they steam instead of crisp. Cook in two batches if you’re making a larger amount.
- Add sauce right before serving – Toss the wings in sauce immediately before you plate them. Letting sauced wings sit makes the skin go soft.
- Check for doneness – Internal temperature should reach 165 degrees F. If your wings are extra large, add a few minutes to the cook time.

Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Wings FAQs
Can I cook frozen chicken wings without thawing them?
Yes, and that’s exactly what this recipe is designed for. The first 10 minutes at 380 degrees F gently thaws the wings before you season and finish crisping them.
Can I use fresh chicken wings instead of frozen?
A small amount of oil helps the seasonings stick and encourages crispier skin, but you can leave it out if you prefer. The wings will still cook through and taste great.
Can I use fresh chicken wings instead of frozen?
Yes. Fresh wings will cook faster, usually around 20 minutes at 400 degrees F, flipping halfway through. Skip the initial thawing step entirely.
How do I know when the wings are done?
The skin should look golden and crispy, and the internal temperature should reach 165 degrees F when checked with a meat thermometer at the thickest part.
Can I make a double batch?
You can, but cook them in separate batches rather than stacking them in the basket. Overcrowding leads to steamed, not crispy, wings. Keep the first batch warm in a low oven while the second batch cooks.
Storage Instructions
- Refrigerate – Store leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 375 degrees F for 5 to 7 minutes until hot and crispy again.
- Freeze – Cooked wings freeze well for up to 3 months. Let them cool completely, then store in a freezer-safe bag or container. Reheat in the air fryer straight from frozen at 375 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes.
