My Crockpot Chicken and Noodles is the creamy, comforting dinner my family never stops requesting. I love chicken noodle soup, but sometimes I want something heartier and more filling without spending hours in the kitchen. This recipe gives you all that cozy flavor in one easy slow cooker meal, and it’s on the table with just 10 minutes of prep.

My Creamy Slow Cooker Chicken and Noodles
I’ve always loved chicken and noodle soup, but I wanted something a little different. Something creamy and comforting that felt more like a hearty dinner than a soup, but was still easy to pull together on a busy night. I tried a handful of other recipes and they always fell flat. The flavor just wasn’t there. So I kept testing until I landed on this version.
The first time I made it, my husband was genuinely surprised at how good it was. My two teens devoured it, and it’s been in our regular rotation ever since. It’s hearty enough to be satisfying but still that cozy, comforting kind of meal everyone loves. We make it the night before swim meets all the time. It’s the perfect make-ahead dinner when you need something filling on the table without the stress.

Why You’ll Love My Easy Crockpot Chicken and Noodles
- The flavor depth – the triple combo of cream of chicken soup, heavy cream, and chicken stock creates a broth that’s richer than anything a typical slow cooker recipe produces. Other recipes fall flat because they don’t layer it like this.
- The noodle technique – most crockpot chicken noodle recipes result in mushy noodles. Mine adds them at the end and lets them absorb the broth off the heat, which is actually the key to getting the texture right.
- It’s not soup – this is a whole different category. Thick, creamy, and hearty enough to be a real dinner. That’s the whole point of why I created it.
Slow Cooker Chicken and Noodles Ingredients

Below is a list of the ingredients you’ll need to make this recipe. Scroll down to the full recipe card for the specific amounts.
- Boneless, skinless chicken breasts – They go in raw and come out perfectly tender and easy to shred.
- Butter – Use unsalted. It adds richness and helps create that silky, comforting broth.
- Condensed cream of chicken soup – do not dilute. This is what gives the broth its creamy, savory depth. It also thickens the soup beautifully.
- Chicken stock – Use a good quality stock for the best flavor.
- Heavy cream – Makes the broth extra rich and creamy. You can substitute half-and-half if needed.
- Black pepper – Simple seasoning that works perfectly here.
- Onion – Adds a savory base flavor that melts into the broth as it cooks.
- Carrots – Adds color, a slight sweetness, and makes this feel like a complete meal.
- Celery – Classic flavor partner to carrot and onion in any good chicken soup.
- Minced garlic – A little garlic goes a long way in building that deep, cozy flavor.
- Egg noodles – Wide egg noodles are the classic choice here. They hold up well and absorb all that delicious broth.
- Chopped parsley – For topping. Adds a little freshness and color right before serving.
Substitutions or Variations
- No heavy cream? Use half-and-half or evaporated milk for a slightly lighter but still creamy result.
- Want to use chicken thighs? Boneless, skinless chicken thighs work great and add even more richness to the broth. Use the same amount.
- Prefer a thinner broth? Add an extra 1/2 to 1 cup of chicken stock and skip one can of cream of chicken soup for a lighter, brothier soup.
- No egg noodles on hand? Wide pasta like pappardelle or even rotini can work in a pinch. Just watch the cook time since it may vary.
How to Make Crockpot Chicken and Noodles
Here are my step-by-step instructions so you can make this recipe with ease. For the full, printable recipe with amounts and temperatures, scroll down to the recipe card below.

- Place the chicken breasts and butter in the bottom of the crockpot.
- Add the cream of chicken soup, chicken stock, heavy cream, black pepper, onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. Stir gently around the chicken to combine.
- Cover and cook on high for 4 hours.

- Once the chicken is cooked through, remove it from the crockpot and shred it with two forks.
- Return the shredded chicken to the crockpot and add the egg noodles. Stir to combine.

- Cover and let sit for 15 minutes. Stir, cover again, and let sit for another 15 minutes.
- Check the noodles. If they are not yet tender, continue letting them sit in the crockpot with the lid on until fully cooked.
- Serve warm with chopped parsley on top.

- Don’t skip the rest time for the noodles – Adding the noodles at the very end and letting them sit in the hot broth (rather than cooking them on high) keeps them from getting mushy. The residual heat does the job perfectly.
- Shred the chicken while it’s hot – It shreds so much more easily right out of the crockpot. Two forks work great, or use a hand mixer for extra speed.
- Dice your vegetables small – Smaller pieces cook through completely in the crockpot and blend into every bite, so you get flavor in every spoonful.
- Don’t dilute the cream of chicken soup – The recipe calls for condensed soup straight from the can. Adding water or broth to it will thin out your broth and dilute the flavor.
- Cook the chicken on high, not low – High for 4 hours keeps the chicken from drying out and gets the broth to the right consistency. If you need to cook on low, go 6 to 7 hours and check for doneness.
- Add a splash more stock if needed – Once you add the noodles, if the soup looks too thick, stir in a little extra chicken stock to loosen it up to your liking.
What to Serve with Crockpot Chicken and Noodles
This crockpot creamy chicken and noodles is hearty enough to stand alone, but a side of crusty bread or easy dinner rolls is perfect for soaking up every last drop of that creamy broth. A simple side salad rounds out the meal nicely.
Slow Cooker Chicken and Noodles FAQs
Can I make this ahead of time?
Yes! You can prep everything except the noodles the night before, refrigerate it, and start the crockpot in the morning. Add the noodles at the very end as directed.
Can I use frozen chicken?
It is best to use thawed chicken for food safety reasons and to ensure it cooks evenly in the 4-hour window. If you only have frozen chicken, thaw it completely in the refrigerator overnight before using.
Why do the noodles cook at the end instead of in the crockpot the whole time?
Egg noodles get mushy if they cook for hours in a slow cooker. Adding them at the end and letting them sit in the hot broth gives them just enough time to cook through without turning to mush.
Can I use rotisserie chicken instead of raw chicken breasts?
Absolutely. Skip step 1 and add shredded rotisserie chicken directly to the broth in the last 30 minutes of cooking. This is a great shortcut if you’re short on time.
How do I keep the noodles from soaking up all the broth?
Noodles naturally absorb liquid as they sit. If leftovers look dry, just add a splash of chicken stock when reheating and stir to loosen everything up.
Storage Instructions
- Refrigerate – Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Freeze – This soup can be frozen, but keep in mind that egg noodles do not freeze and thaw well. They tend to get mushy after freezing. For best results, freeze the creamy chicken broth without the noodles and add fresh cooked noodles when reheating.
- Reheat – Reheat on the stovetop over medium-low heat or in the microwave, adding a splash of chicken stock if the broth has thickened.
