7UP Biscuits
I made these at lunchtime one day and my husband and son gobbled them up before dinner! They are our family’s absolute favorite biscuit recipe. I love it for the taste, but also because they are so easy to make.
The biscuits turn out so absolutely fluffy with the hint of sweetness from the 7UP. And, of course the butter adds amazing richness too!
Even if you’re not a fan of drinking soda, there is actually a good use for it at times in your baking. The carbonation of the 7UP creates an awesome texture for these simple homemade biscuits.
With just 4 easy ingredients needed, you’ll love knowing that you can taste amazing tasting biscuits with minimal time and effort required from you.

Ingredients Needed To Make 7UP Biscuits
Baking Mix – Use an easy mix like Jiffy or Bisquick.
Sour Cream – Adds a creamy texture for the dough and a bit of healthy fat, too!
7UP – The star of the show. (You could also use Sprite for this, too.)
Melted Butter – A simple addition to add flavor and that butter flavor that takes the taste of these biscuits over the top.
How To Make 7UP Biscuits
Did I mention how fast and easy these soda biscuits are? The following steps are all you need to do to have homemade biscuits on the table, fast.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, mix 4 cups baking mix, sour cream, and 7UP.
- Dust the counter with a little bit of baking mix and pour the mixture on the counter. Knead the dough and fold it over itself until it’s just firm and you can roll it out. Do not over knead.
- Use your hands to pat the dough to about ½ inch high and cut round biscuits with a biscuit or round cookie cutter. Cut out biscuit shapes.
- Place melted butter in the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish and place biscuits on top of melted butter. Baking for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Tips and Notes for Making These 7UP Biscuits
- Make certain that you’re not over kneading the dough. This will result in them being very hard and lose out on some of the tasty texture, too.
- Pay attention to the baking time of these biscuits. Once you notice them turning golden brown, it’s time to remove them from the oven. Overbaking them will cause them to turn hard.
- When you’re ready to store your biscuits, make certain that they’ve cooled down all the way before adding them to a container. If you store them hot, the condensation will have them become soggy.
Will any type of soda work with this easy biscuit recipe?
Technically, yes. BUT keep in mind that the light-colored sodas typically are lighter in flavor, too. If you try making this with a dark soda, you might have more of a taste than you want that actually tastes like soda!
There’s also the change that darker sodas could change the coloring of the biscuits, too.
However, if you’re feeling on the wild side, a root beer biscuit might be a good way to give your taste buds a jolt!
Can I freeze these biscuits for later?
You can. All you need to do is make certain that you add them to a freezer-safe bag or container and you can easily pop them in the freezer. They should be fine for several months without issues.
When you’re ready to eat, just remove from the freezer and unthaw.
Tips for changing up these soda biscuits
Since this is such a simple biscuit recipe, there aren’t a whole lot of changes to make.
The quickest way to vary up these biscuits is that you can cut them to be different shapes and sizes for fun eating options. Small biscuits are great for breakfast sausages and quick and easy bites with homemade jelly.
Larger biscuits are a fun way to make sandwiches or toast up in your oven or toaster.
Putting a bit of melted cheese on these biscuits is also a super yummy idea, too!
I love that these biscuits can be sweetened up with homemade jellies and jams or turned savory with cheese and meats.
Fun Topping Ideas for Biscuits
The thing about biscuits is that you can easily add almost any ingredient and they taste great.
Some of my favorite toppings to put on biscuits include:
- Jams & Jellies
- Peanut Butter
- Lunch Meat
- Cheese
- Butter
- Cinnamon and Sugar
- Cooked egg and sausage
- Bacon
See how varied you can really make these biscuits taste? This just proves that they’re great eaten plain or with any type of topping that you want!
