If you’re intimidated by making homemade bread, this one is for you! This is one of the easiest and quickest homemade breads you’ll ever make. The four-ingredient bread recipe gets a helping hand from Bisquick baking mix, which saves you from having to deal with proofing or kneading.
The yeast in the beer acts as the leavening agent in the place of yeast to give the bread it’s tender texture. All you have to do is mix the batter together in a bowl and bake it in a loaf pan until the bread is soft and chewy and the crust is gorgeous golden brown! How easy is that?!
Because this is such an easy bread recipe to make, it’s awesome served along with a weeknight dinner like Homemade Chili, Beef Stew, Salisbury Steak of just about any main course. It’s not just for dinner though. The yeasty flavor pairs great with hearty dips like this Beer Cheese Dip. You can even toast some up and have it for breakfast with your favorite jam or jelly!

Basic Beer Bread Variations and Add-ins
- Beer – We used a light beer in this recipe because it gives the dough a less bitter taste than some hoppy beers. For a fun twist, you could also use a hard cider or beer that has a sweeter flavor. Keep in mind, the darker the beer you use, the stronger the flavor will be, so be careful to choose one that will not be too overpowering.
- Cheddar beer bread – Cheddar cheese or other types of shredded cheese makes a great addition to this recipe. Add about 1/2-1 cup of your favorite cheese to batter. Make sure you have greased the pan well because the cheese has a tendency to make it stick to the pan.
- Herb bread – Dress up the flavors by adding fresh chopped chives, fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary, or even roasted garlic. You can give it an Italian spin by adding a dried Italian herb blend and some parmesan cheese to the dough.
- Sweet beer bread – If you want this savory bread to have a bit more sweetness to use for sandwiches or for breakfast toast, you can add about 2-3 tablespoons for sugar, honey or maple syrup to the dough.
How to Store Baked Beer Bread
This bread can be kept fresh at room temperature in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap for at least 3 days.
You can also freeze it. Cool the bread completely and double wrap it in plastic wrap, then a layer of foil. It will stay fresh in the freezer for about 5 months. When you are ready to thaw it, just stick it in the fridge overnight and warm up the slices in the microwave.
Can I Make This Bread into Muffins?
Beer bread muffins are a great way to have individual servings when you’re feeding a crowd. Grease a muffin tin and fill the cups 2/3 of the way with the batter. Bake them at 375°F for about 15-18 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean. And just like the bread you can add fresh herbs and garlic powder to make this a savory muffin recipe
