Bacon is one of my family’s favorite breakfast food, but I hate making it in the frying pan. With this new way it takes making bacon to the next level. It really is the an easy recipe for the perfect bacon. We love a good food hack and this one is a winner.
This twisted bacon would pair perfectly with our cinnamon roll french toast casserole that you can prepare the night before and cook while the bacon cooks.
Ingredients
Bacon is really the only ingredient to this recipe, but here is what you’ll need to make this twisted bacon hack.
- 1 pound thick cut bacon slices
- seasonings of choice
- sheet pan with sides – use a large baking tray so you can fit more bacon on it!
How to Make Twisted Bacon
- Heat the oven to 350°F and line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
- Hold the ends of the bacon and twist bacon tightly. Lay the twisted bacon down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Repeat with remaining bacon strips and place them next to one another on the baking sheet. It’s OK if the bacon is touching.
- Bake for 20 minutes then flip each bacon twist with tongs and bake for another 20 minutes.
- Let the bacon drain on a wire cooling rack or paper towels to cool.
How to Twist the Bacon
House of Keto shows in her video, you hold the bottom of a slice of bacon, then, using the other hand, twist until you get a nice tight twist. Lay the twisted bacon on a baking sheet that has sides.
Seasonings
Twisted bacon is great plain, but you can add a variety of seasonings before you cook the bacon to spice things up. If you want an extra kick add
- cayenne pepper
- chili powder
- black pepper
Other seasonings that are popular to add:
- everything but the bagel seasoning
- garlic
- maple syrup
- brown sugar
- honey
You can also combine seasonings like cayenne and brown sugar. This is one of our favorites.
What Type of Bacon Should I Use for Twisted Bacon?
You can use singular strips of the bacon of your choice, but we prefer to use a thick-cut bacon
Maple-flavored bacon would be a fun twist on this recipe.
How To Get Chewier Bacon
If you want your bacon more chewy, cook it for less time. Experiment with times until you perfect the crispness vs. chewiness that you desire.
Also, don’t’ make your bacon twists as tight. The tighter the twist, the crispier it will be.
How to Make Twisted Bacon in the Air Fryer
If you want to save time and have an air fryer you can definitely cook twisted bacon in the air fryer. Preheat the air fryer to 350.
Start by cutting the strips of bacon in half so they’ll fit in the air fryer better.
Next, twist each stip of bacon and place in your air fryer basket, leaving room between each slice. Cook for 8-12 minutes.
How Do I Serve Twisted Bacon?
You can serve it any place you would eat normal flat bacon. This bacon works great with a side of eggs for breakfast.
You can also cut it and use it in salads, on top of baked potatoes, on sandwiches, or even serve it as an appetizer.
Another fun way to serve it is in a bloody mary drink!
How Much Can Fit on the Pan?
We typically only cook one pound of bacon at a time, but because you don’t need space between the bacon you can fit up to nearly two pounds of bacon on a single sheet pan.
If I’m on top of things, I’ll go ahead and cook two pounds and put some in an airtight container in the refrigerator to save to have later in the week.
This genius bacon hack makes is a new twist on an old favorite.
