Recommended Tools
- Pitcher
- Wooden spoon
- Measuring cups
- Small star cookie cutter
Ingredients
- Moscato
- Peach Schnapps
- Sparkling white grape juice

- Honeycrisp apples, sliced and cut into star shapes with a star shaped cookie cutter

How to Make Patriotic Sangria
- Toss the honeycrisp apple stars in lemon or lime juice, then drain and set aside.
- Pour the entire bottle of Moscato into a large pitcher
- Add 4 ounces peach schnapps, and 8 ounces sparkling grape juice.
- Add the apple stars, strawberries, and blueberries.
Tips and Suggestions
- Don’t skip tossing the apple starts in the citrus juice. This will help prevent the apples from turning brown.
- If you’re making this more than an hour or so in advance, it’s best to add the fruit right before serving so it doesn’t get soggy or turn brown.
- Try serving this in mason jars or other clear glasses so that the red, white, and blue color is clearly visible.
- Frozen blueberries – you can add frozen blueberries to help keep it cool.
Variations
- You can cut watermelon stars and use them in place of the apples. Be sure to add the melon just before serving though, as it will get mushy if it sits for too long.
- If you don’t have Moscato, you can substitute your favorite white wine. Riesling or Chenin Blanc would both be good choices if you’re looking to keep it sweet. Or if you prefer a dry white wine, try a Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc.
- If you prefer a still sangria over the sparkling version, you can use regular white grape juice instead of sparkling.
- White Peaches – some sangrias use sliced white peaches and they would be great in this recipe
Can I Make Patriotic Sangria in Advance?
You can mix the wine, peach schnapps, and fruit several hours in advance, but I’d recommend waiting until just before serving to add the sparkling wine, so it doesn’t go flat.
Can I Substitute Another Liqueur for the Peach Schnapps?
Sure, I’d recommend a Triple Sec or other orange liqueur. It’s clear, so it won’t change the color of the drink, and the citrus flavor will go well with the Moscato.
This recipe is great for a Memorial Day BBQ, Independence Day and Labor Day, but can be made all summer long.
