Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 cups mini marshmallows divided
  • 1/2 cup hot chocolate mix
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Once the butter has completely melted, add the vanilla extract and 4 cups of marshmallows. Stir the marshmallows continuously until they have all melted.
  • Stir in the cocoa powder until it is fully incorporated into the marshmallow mixture.
  • Using a large silicone spatula, gently fold in the cereal, chocolate chips, and remaining marshmallows until the cereal is evenly coated.
  • Spread the cereal mixture into a 9 x 13 baking dish and gently press down to form an even layer. Let the rice krispy treats to cool down on the counter for 30 minutes.
  • Sice into squares and serve.

Notes

Store leftover treats in an airtight container or covered with plastic wrap. They can be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature for up to 5 days.
