Equipment

  • air fryer

Ingredients

  • 1 large yellow onion sliced into ½ inch rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 cup Italian-style Panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F for about 5 minutes. Set out three bowls.
  • In the first bowl, mix the flour, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • In second bowl, beat the eggs and milk (make sure the bowl is deep enough so that the onions can be fully submerged).
    2 eggs, ¼ cup milk
  • In the third bowl, mix the Panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese. (Leave parmesan out if not using.)
1 cup Italian-style Panko breadcrumbs, ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Take an onion ring and coat it in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
    1 large yellow onion
  • Then dip it into the egg and milk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
  • Finally, coat it evenly with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat with the remaining onion rings.
  • Lightly coat the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the coated onion rings in a double layer, it’s ok if they’re slightly overlapping. Spray the tops of the onion rings with a light coat of cooking spray.
  • Air fry the onion rings in batches, if necessary, for about 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time, until they are golden brown and crispy. Be sure to keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
  • Once done, transfer the crispy onion rings to a serving plate and serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ranch dressing, BBQ sauce, or ketchup.
