Orange Crush Poke Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 box white cake mix
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup orange soda cold
  • 3.5 ounces orange gelatin mix
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 12 ounces whipped topping
  • orange sprinkles

Instructions

1. Bake the Cake according to package instructions.

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Spray bottom of 9×13 pan with non-stick cooking spray. (use clear glass pan)
  • In large bowl, beat box of cake mix, water, oil and egg whites with electric mixer on low speed until combined.
  • Pour the cake batter into baking pan and cook for length on package (probably about 25-30 minutes) or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
    Remove cake from oven and let cool in baking dish.

2. Make the filling.

  • In a medium pot, bring 3/4 cup water to a boil. Once the cold water has come to a boil, dry jello powder in the hot water until dissolved. Add 3/4 cup cold orange Crush soda.
  • Using tongs of a meat fork or wooden skewer, poke holes in the top of the cake, about every ½ inch.
    Pour dissolved orange gelatin over top of cake. Let cool completely, about 1 hour.

3. Add the Topping and Chill

  • Spread cool whip over top of cake and chill in the fridge for a couple of hours
  • Sprinkle with orange jimmies and serve!
