Christmas Tree Meringues

These easy Christmas tree meringues are a simple, airy Christmas cookie everyone loves.

Ingredients

  • 4 egg whites room temperature
  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/8 tsp cream of tartar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • green gel food coloring
  • star shaped sprinkles
  • sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 200, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • With an electric mixer whip egg whites on high until white and foamy.
  • Add in cream of tartar and half of the sugar. Continue whipping until egg whites begin to thicken and soft peaks form.
  • Add in the remaining sugar and vanilla and continue whipping on high several minutes until stiff peaks form.
  • Add in a drop of food coloring and mix until well incorporated. Add more food coloring if until desired color is reached.
  • Place mixture in a piping bag fitted with a large star or closed star tip.
  • Pipe onto the prepared baking sheet in swirls to create small tree shapes. Top with a star shaped sprinkle and add additional sprinkles to decorate the trees.
  • Place in oven and bake for 2 hours. When finished baking shut the oven off and open it slightly, leave the meringues in the oven while they cool. (about 1 hour)
  • Store in an airtight container.
