I love the book “Simplify Your Life.” It is an absolute must read if you are interested in learning how to slow down and enjoy life. When I came across a second version of the book, specific to parents, I had to pick it up.
Subtitled, “100 Ways to Make Family Life Easier and More Fun,” this version is chock full of advice. Here’s a sampling:
Stop Buying More Stuff — Invariably, one more thing adds little to your well-being and a lot to the clutter, the debt, and the confusion in our lives.
This book was written 11 years ago, yet how true is this statement?
Free Yourself from the Tyranny of the Phone — Teach children they don’t have to answer the phone just because it’s ringing.
Encourage Quiet Time — Teach your children to appreciate solitude, to derive simple pleasure from a beach walk, a mountain bike, or a good book.
Make Holidays Easier — If attending parties makes holidays stressful for you, this year cut the number by half or more.
Some of the tips in this book aren’t new. You might even read some of it and say, I already know this. But, by reading it, you might be reminded to put these ideas into action this time. It’s a lot to have a family and it’s good to be reminded how to cut back, to sit back and enjoy life with your family.
