This morning I woke up and made myself a more healthful breakfast choice: a small portion of Greek yogurt. I went for what was better for me, instead of what I thought would taste the best, or what was the quickest thing to get into my grumbling stomach.
Last night I chose to skip an evening snack and go to bed without eating anything past dinner, even though I felt hungry.
Yesterday afternoon I chose to bring only two (one for each kid, zero for me) after school snacks in the car for afternoon pick up.
This is just one day, I realize, but it’s because I just finished reading Tory Johnson’s inspiring journey of loosing 62 pounds in one year, “The Shift: How I finally Lost Weight and Discovered a Happier Life.” As a “Good Morning America” contributor, I’ve followed Tory for years. She’s the mastermind behind Work for Hire and Spark and Hustle events where she inspires and motivates women to do what they love and to become great businesswomen. What I didn’t know is that she is a great storyteller. She starts by explaining she feared the loss of her GMA gig when a network executive took her aside and implied the needed to lose weight. Tory interpreted this conversation as if her job was on the line. It motivated her to do something she’s wanted her entire life, but couldn’t figure out how to tackle.
If you want to lose weight and need a kick start this is just the book for you. Tory lays it all on the line: She’s emotional, vulnerable, and sometimes raw. She tells the truth about her story and doesn’t sugar coat how she did it. It was hard work coated with a determined spirit.
If you are looking for a lose-weight-quick diet plan, this is not for you. I don’t even think most people could handle Tory’s diet regimen: no carbs, no sugar, nothing fake, and no cheating. Period. Sure, she had setbacks. She writes about a weekend getaway with her daughter where she indulged in food and gained 6 pounds in just a few short days.
If you want to truly be inspired by someone who clearly worked her butt off, pick up a copy of Tory’s new book. You’ll blow through the pages and feel as if you were included in her yearlong journey.
I’m giving away a SIGNED BY TORY JOHNSON copy to a lucky reader to help you get started.
