Great catch! Parchment paper is the safer choice since it’s oven-safe and easier to work with. The recipe originally called for wax paper because that was a common method years ago, but parchment paper works just as well (and is what you see in the photos).

If you’re baking the cake directly in the oven, definitely go with parchment paper — wax paper can sometimes smoke if it touches the oven walls or heating elements.
