Happy 2018. I’m back from break and already into the throws of the new year. Our family picks a word of the year so we can achieve things together, and hold each other accountable.
Our word this year is: ACTION.
We want to accomplish things, do a better job of taking care of the things we have, and get in better health (see how I didn’t say, lose weight?).
The concept is to take action. Don’t linger over a decision. Make it happen, even if you do just one thing toward your goal.
Our word of the year also works with getting kids to do chores ;0
My action for the blog this year, after much thought, is to be more present. I read a great article about being vunerable and it hit home. I’m going to be sharing more stories about what I’m doing and how I’m taking action in my life.
How am I really balancing motherhood?
I want to be more transparent in order to help others who have daily struggles balancing work, life, and parenting. I know how daunting it can get.

So, I’m not exactly sure what these slice of life features are going to be like, but let’s just start with talking more about things I’m doing and what’s happening and we’ll see if you can relate.
What I’m Reading
Another topic of interest in my life is reading. It’s a great way to reduce stress. I follow a lot of big readers like Maurice on Books, Mom Creative, Money Saving Mom, and Mom Advice, among others. All of these women are HUGE readers and all are moms (Maurice on Books is my mom!). So, they know what it’s like to be busy, but they still make reading a priority. People ask me ALL. The. Time. how I read such great books. I follow these ladies and read their reviews and then pick books I think I’ll like the most.
I’m currently reading Still Me by JoJo Moyes. This is the third in a series. The first is what I call a MUST READ, Me Before You. Every single person I’ve suggested it to, loved it. Moyes continues the story brilliantly with the main character, Luisa Clark, and takes her to New York City. I received an advanced reader copy so it’s not available until January 30, but it’s going to be a hit. Easy, fun read.
What I’m Watching
My husband and I usually try to binge-watch a TV series together. Sometimes it’s very hard to find something we both are interested in watching. Currently we’re watching the second season of The Crown. I like to describe it to friends as more fascinating than amazing. We love it, but it’s not that it’s a nail bitter type of show, I mean, we all know the outcome since it’s based on England’s royal family. But, what you learn about how “the crown,” aka the Queen, is truly fascinating. Not always a fairy tale, that’s for sure.
What I’m Eating
Starting on January 2 I started a low-carb, low-sugar meal plan. I don’t want to call it a diet because I’m trying to make this more of a state of mind to be healthy. This week I successfully resisted white wedding cupcakes, cheesecake, cookies, chocolate, and other sweets that I normally would have indulged in every day.
I haven’t seen much reward for this resistance yet, but I’m hopeful.
