Crystal Paine is the founder of MoneySavingMom.com a website that has turned into a business and supports her family of five. On it she teaches women how to save money, clip coupons, and offers general inspiration for living a purposeful lifestyle on less. In her new book, Money Making Mom, she opens the door behind the success of her business and spills all the details in hopes to inspire others. What’s not to love about that? You get clear insights into how she grew a business from nothing.
I love the premise of this book – of teaching that every woman can earn more money and make a difference. It makes me think there are only so many ways to save money, but there are endless opportunities to make money.
She mentions Seth Godin’s book Poke the Box, which I haven’t read, and writes that he teaches to “just go out and do something.” It’s so easy to get caught up in research and planning, but you must take action.
Another important section is where Crystal talks about asking why you want to do a certain business? What is the purpose? She walks you through the steps to determine if your idea is worthy of a business. “Successful businesses aren’t just ideas that sound great; they fill a void or solve problems that people deal with on a regular basis.” She continues, “If your proposed business idea isn’t doing any one of these things, there’s a good chance it’s not going to succeed.”
Money Making Mom is a big dose of encouragement for any woman who wants to start, build, or grow a business. It’s even worth it to read it more than once to jumpstart your creativity, and to get you moving in the right direction.
