Diana Nyad completed her dream of being the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida. What an inspiration for us all! In the video from her CNN interview she talks about never giving up. Immediate messages from the swim are,
“One is we should never, ever give up. Two is you never are too old to chase your dreams.”
She also talks about how with one hand she would swim and push Cuba away, with the other hand, she would bring Florida closer to her. If you have a dream that you don’t know how to tackle, push your current situation away and work to bring the dream closer. Just one thing at a time. Like Nyad going stroke by stoke, think of your dream in terms of strokes. Each stroke is a task or something you need to do to bring the dream closer to you. As you bring it closer, the past and those things that are getting in the way will be further behind you.
Everyone has dreams and many of us put them on hold or don’t have confidence we can do it. Never, ever give up is what we need to say to ourselves and bring those dreams to the forefront of our lives. “Find a way,” Nyad says. We need to find a way to make our dreams happen. It’s not easy, but it can be done.
A friend of mind commented on Facebook that its great that Nyad is the first. She’s not the first woman to do this, she is the first! Hopefully she will do more interviews or perhaps write a book so the world can be inspired by her triumphs to do what we want in our own lives.

Awesome story of determination and GRIT! You (and she) both nailed it…every step you take towards something you truly want is one step further away from something you don’t! The longest journey begins with a single step! 🙂
Great post!
