This time last year I was in the Big Apple at the BlogHer conference. Tonight BlogHer attendees are having a grand ole time in San Diego. I’m not in San Diego sadly so I decided to make the best of my time tonight and do something bloggy: Update WordPress.
This has taken hours. I went from, embarrassingly, having version 2.3.1 to the newly, and fresh, version 3.2.1. Ironic how the same numbers can mean entirely different things in this order. I was severely out of date and in major need of this upgrade.
I was afraid to do it. I didn’t want to have to deal with it. But, it was keeping me back. I had lost my quick-to-read stats counter and was giving up hope that I’d ever get on a better version of WordPress.
So, tonight, with my bowl of cereal by my side (should have made it a glass of wine!), I performed the upgrade. Here’s the proof:
Several times tonight I thought my site wasn’t going to come back up. Several times, I stared straight ahead while the progress bar crept along. Several times, I held my breath and then gave a big sigh of relief as it started to come back to life. I think my down time was less than an hour. Pretty good considering I wasn’t sure it’d get back up at all.
Now I can cross that off my list and get to more important bloggy things. It’s my 4 year blog anniversary and I feel like I conquered a new feat. Now I can move on and work toward providing more.
This time next year I hope to be in NYC for BlogHer 12!
